Kissing on the lips and sharing utensils?

Anyone else have family/friends that kiss your DC on the lips and try and feed your DC from their plate using their fork/spoon or touch your DC's food? I have 4 people in my family (my mom, MIL, BIL and my Aunt) that do this and it drives me nuts. they do these things dispite knowing that we want our Dd to kiss on the cheek. We also feed her all organic and natural food so there are certian things we don't want her eating plus it isn't hygenic and she chokes/gags then vomits very easily so we give her very small peices of food. Despite our discouraging this people continue to do it. How can i nip this in the bud without looking crazy or hurting their feelings?

I dont care if I look crazy. I am not a fan of either of these things and people better respect it or they will have problems with me. I am the mom and I decide whose germs my DC should get, and that is only MINE (or DHs).eta - I think you have to look crazy b/c they are clearly not respecting your wishes when said in a polite way, now it's time to let the crazy out b/c sometimes thats the only way some people will listen.

This drives me INSANE..........and totally grosses me out too!!!!! Chat Icon I have had to tell my Dad multiple times for the past four years to stop feeding my DD from his plate and utensils and to stop sharing drinks. I think it's just gross. I don't care if it annoys someone..........my kid, my rules.

Yeah.......my inlaws used to do this when DS was small. And one of my friend aunts (I know weird) kissed my DD twice on the lips. DH was not crazy about this either.

Is your DC in daycare? I basically told them that DS was trying to give them kisses on the lips (he never was). They didn't like this. We told them that we are teaching him only mommy and daddy......and kept saying it to DS in front of them. They supported it and taught him the same thing.

The utensil thing has never happened but I am with you! I would hate it also. Maybe you can say that you are afraid of colds and that the doctor said not to do it.....

Tell them please not to do that as it encourages your kid to do it to others and it spreads oral herpes. Sharing utensils... Same thing.

That should stick in their head the most.

This. I have had cold sores since I was 3. Both my sister and I have virus and only I get the sores. Every time I get a fever I get a massive outbreak of them, it's extremely painful to eat, talk and even breathe. I wish, wish, wish that I didn't have these, on top of being painful they are extremely ugly and people assume that you are a big slut lol. While you can get them from being sexually active you can also get them from sharing drinks, utensils, and kisses with others as was my case but try telling that to a bunch of 12 yr olds in middle school. For this reason, I don't kiss my sweet boys on the mouth, I don't want them to go through what I do and I don't want anyone else kissing them on the mouth either. I'm not saying that other people who do this are wrong, each family has their own ways of doing things and even my parents kissed me in the lips but I won't do it to my kid for this reason. I also have to be incredibly careful around them when I have an outbreak which thankfully is few and far between now that I have found ways to keep them at bay. I also don't like the fact that people can spread this virus without ever having a cold sore. Like I said, my sister has the virus and doesn't get them, never had one. While there is just a slim chance to spread it without an outbreak, it's not a chance I'm willing to take with my boys and their still developing immune system. Plus, you don't know what people do in the personal time lol. I'm totally ok with kissing on the cheeks though.

Thank You so much for the advice! I will be more assertive when the next occurance happens. I didn't even think of oral herpes! I keep saying to her give a kiss on the cheek when she is about to kiss someone. It's just such a pain when an adult hears me say that and aims their lips for her lips ugh!

Yes, this is always my main concern. People are gross and some will kiss a DC when they have a sore! Or a sore is coming out but they dont realize so it can spread. I would be very upset if my DC got them. My DH gets them, I never have had one and if he even thinks he is getting one he won't kiss me or we won't share anything. I know someone whose 2 DC got them from their aunt, who kisses even when she has sores. Meanwhile their parents never even had one, and the poor kids get them. Big bad painful ones too.

So no one has a right to kiss your DC on the lips or share their food, ever, except YOU, the parent.

Hmmm, I wasn't raised to kiss on the lips, so I think it's weird. Kissing on the lips is too intimate. I would just tell them not to because you don't want her catching germs. They can't really argue with that.

Over 60 percent of people in the US have oral herpes.

Most get it in early childhood.

Most of US posters have it. Can be awful... Or can be totally asymptomatic.

Good excuse not to have a kid kissed by relatives and share forks.
