What do you feed your 15 month old....
...when you are out shopping or doing something and is feeding time?
I am just wondering (and not judging). I was at the mall yesterday and during lunch time, a mom and her 16 month old sat next to me and she was feeding him baby food for lunch (one jar only). Meanwhile, I was sitting with my three and had a whole meal laid out in front of them...LOL! I usually steam veggies before I leave the house (always two kinds), pasta (because it keeps well and it is easy and light to carry), sometimes tofu, a fruit or two, some cheerios, cereal bar, and water. I felt like a "freak". She looked at me like I was crazy or something.
I am also looking for ideas on what else is good to give them when we are out. I am trying to not to give them fast food when I am out. I carry two insulated bags (one for cold and one for hot stuff).
Thank you for your input and advice ladies

Re: What do you feed your 15 month old....
I generally try to plan a meal like you, or I will go to certain staples that I try to keep with me at all times: a ziploc of cheerios, a ziploc of puffs, individual containers of organic apple, pear, or apple berry sauce from TJs, individual containers of mandarin oranges, etc. Those are usually more to tide over until we can get a real meal on the go.
We stopped giving baby food a while ago.

Re: What do you feed your 15 month old....
I usually pack up some stage 3 meals, but I hate doing it. They never eat baby food anymore, but I'm never sure what to bring with me that is easy. I will be following this post to get more ideas.
Also, what kind of cereal bars do you give your boys?

Re: What do you feed your 15 month old....
It depends on the kid. My now 3.5 yr old is very picky and had sensory issues. He was never and still not such a big eater. He's much better now, but at 16 months he was fine with 1 jar of baby food. Now I have a 16 month old who eats everything. We are usually rarely out around lunch time bc during the week my 3 yr old is in preschool and comes home around 12:30.
If we are out I always have snacks like Cheerios, water, puffs, etc. I'll get him food at any store or I make sure we get home for a good lunch. I've also given him chicken nuggets if necessary. Once in a while I don't think is a bad thing and he rarely eats fast food, but I'd get the apples as a side.

Re: What do you feed your 15 month old....
my DD is 15 months old (12 mths adjusted) and we have been trying to transition her to table foods for 2-3 months now with no luck. We are now in the process of getting her re-evaluated to possibly get feeding therapy through EI. If I was out with her, I'd feed her a jar or 2 of baby food and that would be it. Every baby is different and you never know if that baby had issues of his/her own in terms of feeding.

I have lots of experience with feeding and sensory issues so you can FM me any time if you'd like. My 3.5 yr old will still gag on some things, but he's so much better than he used to. He was on baby food till a little over 2. He's now in the local preschool pop program (sort of special Ed that he sees a speech therapist everyday and an OT once a week). Of course this is bc EI ended at 2. Good luck!

Re: What do you feed your 15 month old....
mine eats everything and is out everyday with the nanny, and with me on weekends. I pack a cooler bag that has a meal for him that is usually either pasta w meatsauce/meatballs, turkey chili, shredded chick i make in the crockpot and also a veggie or fruit. also pack cheerios, water and in case of emergency cookies.
I still get the fruit pouches as an emergency easy snack that he can feed himself but he really doesn't eat baby food; not for months now. he's 16 months.

Re: What do you feed your 15 month old....
I always have bottled water and snacks packed, but if we are at mall or something, I usually buy him a meal, or buy something we can share. DS is 13 months.

thank you! DS has speech/feeding therapy 3 times a week (he is primarily g-tube fed and has a trach) I asked her about DD's feeding issues and she isn't sure if it's a sensory issue or if it's a swallowing tongue movement/issue. We'll see what they say when we have her evaluated.

OMG, thank you. After the other responses I was starting to get a complex that I was the only mom who did this! I'll bring goldfish in a ziploc bag, Gerber Graduates snacks, or a string cheese, something easy to carry, to keep her busy and not too hungry. But if we're out and it turns to lunchtime, I'll stop for something quick wherever we are - pizza, a bagel, Panera, something like that.

Re: What do you feed your 15 month old....
Honestly I try to avoid being out at lunchtime. But if I were I would probably just buy him something. I have no qualms about giving him fast food once in a while.
I'd bring jarred food if he'd still eat it, but he won't.

What do you feed your 15 month old....
I dont see anything wrong with giving a jar of baby food in a pinch, my son probably wouldn't eat it and he's only 13 months but if he would, why not? He isa very good eater and I could give him some of anything I ordered but not all babies are this way, maybe the baby you saw prefers jarred food and doesn't like table food.

Re: What do you feed your 15 month old....
My go to staple items when we are out at the mall or gymboree during lunch time are a sunflower seed and jelly sandwich on WW bread, 2 cereal bars, a mashed Avocado (mash it before we leave), a small jar/container of apple sauce, and then snacks like veggie sticks, animal crackers, graham crackers. Sometimes I will bring the fruit/veggie pouches. Those are easy bc all three of them know how to feed themselves that. But for my trio thats not enough for a meal, they are usually still hungry. So sometimes I will do a pouch each and then split a sunflower seed butter and jelly sandwich between the 3 of them.

My son would never have eaten any of those things at 15 mts. Still wont! At that age, it was and still is fruit. That's about it! And puffs back then.

I always have the fruit pouches, cereal bars, goldfish, annie's bunny grahams, and earth's best snacks on hand in the diaper bag. But if we are out at the mall or something like that during lunch time, we will stop and get something- usually pizza or panera.
