hand me down convertable car seat??
We lost so much from sandy and soon we will hhave to use a convertable car seat for ds. We lost brand new ones so my bf wants to give me hers that is about 3 years old. I said to her not sure about safety standards changing and I thinlk I mighjt have hurt her feelings bc her daughter currently uses it. Are we not supposed to use hand me downs for car seats or is it ok? Thoughts?

If I knew the person and knew that it was a seat that wasn't expired or in an accident, I would have no problem taking it...

This. I would never get a seat from Craigslist list, but a friend I might.
Although, if her DD still uses it, what is she going to use if she gives it to you??
Eta: if it was brand new, in box in your house, aren't you able to claim it in your losses so you get another new one??

Same here. The only other thing that I would say it that it would expire in 2 years than you need a new one anyway. Id rather but a new one now and. It have to worry about it again in 2 years

I would totally be ok with a car seat of a friend that I knew had it new originally and no accidents.
I would never buy a used car seat from a stranger.

Re: hand me down convertable car seat??
I had been looking for an excellent condition used Britax Marathon to keep as a second seat in my DH's car (DS is primarily in my car and has a new Marathon in my car). Luckily, I have a good friend offer me the one she had and I gladly accepted. It still has some years left in it before it expires and I know who it comes from, as opposed to a stranger from Craig's List. I would totally accept the one you were offered.
