Just heard on news that she said she did it because she resented how the family treated her....
Really? So you decide that killing their kids is the best way to get back at them? Why not just quit? I don't get it...
That story still upsets me so very much

I heard about this too. I believe there was a dispute about her pay. What a total monster, it's unreal.
I hate to say it, but this is why I feel you should never scrimp on, or try to screw over, your childcare provider. Even on this site, I saw a lot of debate over whether people should pay their childcare for days that were closed due to the hurricane. You never know what people will do when they're provoked... obviously in this case, this woman was seriously disturbed, and most providers are not going to commit murder. But when it comes to the person who your kid spends most of their day with, I would opt to just keep that person happy.... not the place to be pinching pennies, kwim?

There's no way that she doesnt have a mental illness. There were reports of her seeing a therapist or something of the like beforehand. This is not a normal case of a disgruntled employee.

It clearly was not the parents' fault, that wasn't a point I was trying to make. What I was saying was, you just can't be too careful. There are unstable people in this world-- think of disgruntled employees "going postal" at their workplace. Because you truly don't know how people are going to react in a given situation, the one employee I wouldn't want to "disgruntle" would be the one responsible for my kid's well-being.

Oh yeah, makes total sense! I'm resentful of this family for giving me a job and I have an issue with my pay. So let me kill two of their innocent children! Totally logical!

But the reports when this happened said that the family paid for her to go home to the dominican every year and they had been there 6 months prior visiting with her family.
I know you dont know what goes on behind closed doors but from all accounts she was treated more than fairly by her employers.
I think this is a further blow to the Krim family as its even more senseless now..this story will haunt me forever I just hope somehow this family can pull itself together at some stage if only for the sake of the poor child that was spared.

ITA! and what makes me sick is that time and money will be spent defending this piece of crap, this monster!! in cases like this there should be NO mercy whatsoever. i am so upset and so angry over this story

The truth is that despite a very good salary, bonuses, nice gifts, vacations and so on there is a lot more going on behind closed doors, some nannies are not treated very nicely , lots of times they are used and abused , treated like slaves. But this doesn't mean that they go and start killing people , kids. They either stay and take it , or they quit. Obviously this woman must have had other mental issues to commit such a horrific crime.
It's heartbreaking to know that there are sick people out there who are capable of doing something so terrible . My heart breaks for the parents.

I can't believe that whether a nanny gets paid for vacation or how they are treated is even entering the discussion over this.
She killed a 2 & 6 year old. Stabbed them to death. She's clearly missing a chip here.
It is NOT the parents' fault. Reports are that they background checked her & treated her very fairly

I agree. I know firsthand quite a few nannies that were treated like absolute garbage. My jaw would drop upon hearing some of their stories. Unfortunately many stay and take the abuse bc they are live in and have nowhere else to go .
As for this piece of garbage, she didn't have to stay IMO. She wasn't living with them. There are tons of childcare positions out there. She should have been looking for another family before she reached the end of her rope! Ugh... It really disgusts me.

Someone has to be very very very mentally sick to do what she did.
When you hear of things like this, whatever the case may be (nanny kills kids, guy shoots innocent people in theater, etc) the end of the story is that they are MENTALLY ILL.
Everyone at some point in life feels jealous, angry, overworked, underpaid etc..whatever the case may be. But 99.99% of us will NOT do what she did.
EVEN if this woman was paid more money or given other things, guaranteed she was a ticking time bomb. Someone who was battling sick thoughts and didn't get help. You do NOT do something like this because you're frustrated or think you're being taken advantage of (whatever the case was with her reasoning). You do something like this when there is something seriously wrong with your head.
It's sickening that these two children are no longer alive...they were innocent and had these enormous lives in front of them that were taken away because of one sick individual.
The parents honestly just had a horrible deal in the end...no one would ever think something like this was possible. You just never ever know. It's heartbreaking

I cant help but think about how their sibling feels and how will it effect theway they grow up. Survivors guilt all alone. Sooo sad and senseless.

Is there a news article in which she was quoted as saying this? I am not being snarky, I just haven't followed the case and I am wondering who found out that she said this and whether it was in court. At least if she did it (and to me everyone is only alleged to have done what they are accused of until the gavel comes down) she is not saying, "it wasn't me. Prove it was."
ETA: found some things online....
don't know what to think of it all. Murder is never justified but who can say they are not now curious about the working conditions?

They live 4 blocks from us. The mother did art classes at the local playground. DH and I went by to pay our respects outside their building right after it happened. I've never seen so many flowers.
I was so upset that the story was buried because of the storm. I'm glad to see it's now resurfaced and that that monster will be brought to justice. A huge candle light vigil was held at the playground where she did her classes right after the storm. Many people here will NEVER be the same again. There are sooooo many parents up here who are now going to counseling because of this. The UWS is family central - many who leave their kids in the care of nannies. So many moms are tortured now about leaving their kids with someone else.
To the previous poster who insinuated that they got what they paid for or scrimped...how can you say that?! They stayed with her family in the Dominican Republic. Had a relationship with them. I know that they paid her really well and had an understanding about her responsibilities with her kids and her house. This woman snapped. Plain and simple. No excuse this woman gives makes ANY sense and obviously doesnt justify her actions.
I'm a new mom and this has shaken me to my core. Because of this incident my DH and I are really considering that I stay as a SAHM after my maternity leave. This woman was checked out and vetted and look what happened. How can you trust anyone?

I can't believe anyone would question the working conditions of this woman. I have followed this story from the beginning and I cannot believe how much I grieve for people I don't even know.
Honestly, how bad could the mother have possibly been to provoke this madwoman? The reports say that the detectives who questioned the nanny said she had an "epic" argument with the mother regarding how the children were cared for. The mother felt the children were being neglected and that she was feeding them junk food. When the nanny, who was in financial duress, asked for more money (she was reportedly paid $18/hr), they offered her instead the option of more hours doing housework. This apparently infuriated and insulted her. (These are reports from detectives who questioned the nanny in the hospital).
I see a woman with high expectations who cared about how her children were being treated. Isn't it the prerogative of the mother/employer to tell the employee what her expectations are? Why would she give a woman whose work she was unhappy with a raise? This woman was with the family for 2 years or so.
Reports say the nanny was threatened that if she did not improve they would terminate her. I think the mother's mommy instinct kicked in, but unfortunately too late.

I was the one who used the phrase "working conditions" but I only implied that this will make people curious about what went on in that home, not a homicide becomes justifiable. If the media comes up with a back story, whether the story is about the nanny's past or the family's, it will sell a lot of papers regardless of whether it is even true. Look at how much discussion it has sparked here.

The one thing I didn't understand about this whole thing...this nanny was reported by others in the apartment building as being cold and not friendly. And the Krim family had even sent the nanny to interview for a friend as a potential new job (i think because the mom was having too many little issues with her) and that family found her to be the same way and they declined. Talk about dodging a bullet.
I'm not sure HOW long this nanny was acting negatively or how long it was since their argument, but if you are having problems with your caregiver and there is any animosity on their part, you say goodbye. Obviously NO ONE could have ever known that something so horrendous would happen...
