need ideas. what are you getting your 3 year old ds for xmas??
i have no clue what to buy. i refuse to buy him any expensive electronics. he is too rough and breaks everything!

Fisher price camera
Maybe a dreamlite (penguin)
Volkswagen beetle toy cars
Some Batman toys/playsets
More washable crayons, markers, play doh
He has so much already, it's hard to come up with new ideas.

A children’s guitar
Several fire truck toys
Some hot wheels/match box cars and tracks.
That will probably mostly it. The power wheels and train table are $$$

Since we celebrate hanukkah we give 8 presents. We have friends who only give presents for some of the nights and family fills in the rest. I think you need to do what works for your budget. If I celebrated Christmas I think I would give one big present and a couple of smaller presents. I am not sure how many I would give, but I would go by my budget as a guide.
For us, I try to get one big present, something educational, books, something to grow into, and something that is pure fun, and also things they want. I think you need to figure out how much you want to spend and see what is out there you think your DC might enjoy. I try to make a list and see what the prices are for each item that my kids want and things I think they would enjoy. I then look to see if the items are on sale so I can get a better price for them. As for what to get, my son loved and still loves geotrax, legos/duplos, board games, and cars. HTH

We are already purchased some new things for his train table like Knapford Station, Toby's Windmill, and Tidmouth Sheds. We bought some new trains too.
Also looking to get:
Lego Duplo sets
Board games (Hi Ho Cherry O, Candy Land, Elefun, etc)
Play doh sets including one that inclues a truck and play doh made to look like asphalt, brick, ect.
Puzzles
Books
Guitar, trumpet
Farm set from Constructive Playthings DS asked Santa for
Maybe a Power Wheels vehicle if I see a good sale
Hess Truck (not 2012, DH doesn't like it)
More Trucks
DS just turned 3. With his bday and Christmas relatively close to each other, I start to run out of ideas. He already has several big items (train table, kitchen, easel) so at this point I don't know what to get.
ETA: I'm not a fan of getting him electronic toys so no Leap Pad or anything like that on my list.

here is another idea - my 2.5 year old is very into sorting and matching. EEBOO makes adorable, age appropriate matching games! My son doesnt play with them like a traditional matching game yet (aka turn them all over and match from memory) but he loves to make "matches" or find the pairs.
also the melissa and doug and eeboo lacing cards.
