Re: Paying babysitter for missed days?

Same situation here, although not for quite so many days. We did not pay her. It's always been that way- we pay her every friday based on the days/hours they've gone that week.

I wouldn't pay her if your kid didn't go. Chat Icon

What is the policy? The at home daycare I use, we still pay if there are snow days or days ds misses if hes sick. I pay a week in advance.

Re: Paying babysitter for missed days?

I'm in a similar situation..My babysitter still does not have power and heat, so I had to have family members, myself and DH take off. I am not paying her, because I feel like she does not have an enviorment that is safe for my child. I feel bad, but, I should not have to pay for that...

Do you think I am being unreasonable..(feel free to be honest.)

Re: Paying babysitter for missed days?

We are paying two-thirds of the week. I feel she needs the money and it isn't her fault she couldn't get to me.

Re: Paying babysitter for missed days?

DS goes 3x a week to a home day care. I paid as I normally do last week and received a credit for 2 future days since he only went once.

DD used one of those days last Friday since school was still closed and I had to get to work, and she will use one next Monday for Veteran's Day.

Re: Paying babysitter for missed days?

We have a babysitter that comes to our house on mondays. We have worked out that if either of us cancel we don't pay. However I feel bad that she missed 2 mondays because of the storm and next monday is another school holiday.
I offered her the opportunity to come one evening and dh and I would go out to dinner and we would pay her a regular days salary. This way we are both happy!

Not sure if this helps you though. Does she watch other kids? can you see what other parents are doing? Maybe not pay her for the whole week but give her some $ maybe one or 2 days if your policy is that you don't pay if you don't go?

Paying babysitter for missed days?

Unless the policy states something specific, maybe offer a portion of what you would normally pay, just to be nice Chat Icon

I always want my nanny or sitter to be happy and feel appreciated. Happy nanny = happy baby... So if in question of what to do I pay the sitter.

Same for us. Last week she only came 1 out of the three scheduled days...I paid her the full amount with the understanding we'll try our best to make up the hours at a later time -- she's offering to come 1-2 evenings so DH and I can have some date nights.

I know she appreciates the gesture and when I have work functions that keep me later than our scheduled times, she is understanding.

I would speak with her. That is your best bet. Is she still operating or is she closed?

Our in-home day care did not have power last week and Wednesday morning parents were dropping off their kids in costume (there was a Halloween Party). These parents didn't feel its any different being there w/o power then being home w/o power. I was surprised but both my kids went Thur. and Fri and they were so happy being with the other children. The parents were also bringing in food and juices since she did not have her fridge.

As yourself this:

Do you expect your employer to still pay you if you did not go to work due to the hurricane? If so then pay her.

That's how I thought about it too. My DD goes to an in-home daycare that is licensed and insured and we pay for days that my DD is sick. We also pay for an entire week even if a holiday falls during the week (ex. Thanksgiving Week). My Daycare also closes two weeks a year and I pay those weeks too.

Sometimes I am annoyed by it but then I think to myself that this is her business and her livelihood. When I take vacation or a sick day at work, my employer pays me.

This. Also... I think of all the people in the world to be cheap with and possibly pizz off, the person responsible for your kid should be the last, kwim?
