That crane cannot come down for a storm. It takes more than a day to get it down. People are working to secure it

Why could that crane not be taken down days ago, knowing this was coming?

I read it would take at least a week to get the crane down, and of course people won't prepare that far in advance.

Re: Anyone hear about the crane on the building on 57th street?

DH has dealt with construction that involves cranes in Manhattan.

It is the biggest clusterfluck to prepare for.......to say the least.

I hope everyone remains safe.

I live in the area and am across the street from a huge crane sitting on top a 50 story building. Now I'm getting nervous.

Re: Anyone hear about the crane on the building on 57th street?

it would take about 3-4 days possibly even a week, and cost about a million at least to get that crane down. people were still finding out more info re: the storm. These cranes are made to withstand wind gusts but the wind gusts have been more than what anyone expected. had they gone based on the late night early morning forecast they NEVER would have gotten that crane down in time before sandy. these things happen...it's a very sucky and unfortunate position that the neighboring areas are in now because of it.

This!!! Believe me there are professionals that were involved in the decisions every step of the way and there is a huge team there now assessing every minute.

They are doing everything to avoid any injuries.

Will cost them a lot more than a million dollars if someone gets hurt.
Guess they figured it would be worth the risk.
