We have one and it was worth it. Tricky part is finding one that fits your head rest correctly.

I have one and love it.
I know they say nothing extra in the car but think about all the stuff you have in your car. Any of that could e a hazard too and I never hear the seat inspectors say make sure you remove that change or cup in the cup holder.

I think it depends on how much traveling you plan to do with your LOs. My DS travels back and forth with me from Suffolk to Queens every day for daycare. So I have a mirror because it's just way too long of a period of time for me to not be able to see him and what he's doing. Ours is plastic and it's tethered to the car. It's also pretty light-weight. But if you're not taking them on that kind of daily commute, you may not really need one.
Agreed... DS is in the car for at least an hour a day with DH so it was a must for us! But if you aren't in the car all the time it may not be necessary.

This is a very good point too. I always think about the fact that my cell phone or coffee cup or purse could become a danger if heaven forbid we were in a crash.

Re: do i need a car mirror?
We have a mini-van with 3 car seats and I had them, but did not find the effective. I definitely could not see the babies all the way in the back. Mine are still rear-facing and almost 16 months. Sometimes I wish I had them, but we have gotten along just fine without.

Re: do i need a car mirror?
I have one that is more designed as a baby toy. It loops over the headrest and then latches, it's not going anywhere. I like that I can see her on longer trips, and even on short trips. If she starts coughing, or crying, I can see exactly whats going on. It also keeps her occupied.
