do i need a car mirror?

like the ones for rear facing seats? or can i get away with not having them? from the little i've read on it, as long as they're secured properly and they're not real mirrors, they're not a safety hazard, correct?

TIA

I never used one. DS is almost 2 and is still rear-facing.

Re: do i need a car mirror?

I don't have one and we've gotten by, although sometimes I wish I did. DH refuses as he is adamant that even if they're shatterproof they're still potentially hazardous in a crash. I try not to get into it with him on stuff like that because I really don't know what he sees at work (and sometimes I don't want to know). I believe that the standard opinion is yes, they are safe if shatterproof.

Re: do i need a car mirror?

No I never had one. And I never missed it.

The recommnedation is nothing other than the car seat because they can become projectiles in a crash.

do i need a car mirror?

I had the mirror that connected to the tether hook in the car. I felt that it was safer then other mirrors that just attached to the seat. I used it all the time and will again when I have DC#3

Re: do i need a car mirror?

I just bought them at target for $11 ea yesterday. I was a little scared driving home with the babies. I'm sure it will pass but for now the $22 was worth it.

We were told the same thing by the state trooper who inspected our car seat.

We get by fine without it, but I do sometimes wish I had one so I could see DD and figure out why she is crying.

We don't have one. I can count on one hand the number of times I wished I had one. DS is 17 months.

same here from the car seat inspector we had... and I agree it does get frustrating not to see them and know what's going on- I cant tell you how many times I have pulled over to check ds

do i need a car mirror?

I think it depends on how much traveling you plan to do with your LOs. My DS travels back and forth with me from Suffolk to Queens every day for daycare. So I have a mirror because it's just way too long of a period of time for me to not be able to see him and what he's doing. Ours is plastic and it's tethered to the car. It's also pretty light-weight. But if you're not taking them on that kind of daily commute, you may not really need one.

That's a good point. I think the majority of my driving with them will be short trips and the longer trips, I will have DH with me.

I havent had the car seats inspected yet, so that's another good point. Thanks ladies!

Re: do i need a car mirror?

we've had them in both cars and i really am glad we did
he's old enough now that he can look in the mirror and see himself, or see us and we smile back and forth at each other (if i'm stopped at a light). it really helps to be able to see him

i know they're not recommended though, as our car inspector said so as well. We have ours attached to the seat back and its totally plastic so i'm hoping they're ok

I have one and i love it. She can see herself and me in the mirror and we talk to each other. I just feel more comfortable being able to see her.

Same here.

eta: I was told the same thing about it becoming a possible projectile in a crash. Not worth the risk. For long road trips, I hop in the back with her and DH drives us.

Ditto. I like being able to see her. And really it would be a rare occurrence should the mirror harm her in the event of an accident.

I used to pull over constantly to make sure DD was ok back there. I hated not being able to see her. I had to get one.

I LOVE mine. They are huge and so effective. I know who is sleeping, who is making noise, whos socks were just thrown at me etc. They are completely secured to the headrests.
