Starting Solids

I know its probably been posted about a million times, but when did you/will you start your db on solids? DD is 4 months and 1 week and doctor said we could start slowly on cereal, just to get her practicing. But I'm not sure she's ready (or me!). She doesn't really show any signs of interest. She's exclusively breast fed.

Re: Starting Solids

I tried giving her cereal at 4 months, but she wasn't ready. I only gave it to her a handful of times. Tried again at 5 months and she's picking it up much better.

Starting Solids

My Dr said any time after 4 months when DS was food ready. Food ready is when they are showing interest in what you are eating and if they are chances that they will want to try the cereals and purees. I would just make a tiny bit of cereal and see if she takes it. If not then try again in a week or so.

My DS was all about it but my sisters DS (month older than mine) wanted nothing to do with food until closer to 6 months.

Starting Solids

I waited until 6 months after reading some of the benefits of waiting and the fact that the AAP recommends just breastmilk for the 1st six months. When my doctor said we could start at 4 months, I asked if there were any benefits and he didn't have much of an answer so we waited. Even now that we finally started I'm not sure she's really ready yet.

Re: Starting Solids

I started at 4 months - he wasn't sleeping throught the night at all and was hungry ALL of the time (he EBF) he wasnt ready for it, so we put it in a bottle. Worked wel and slept through the night for a couple of weeks. DS is now 5 months and no longer sleeping through the night - but Dr sugested trying fruits now. I was opposed to the cereal that early at first as well - but once you get to the fruits, it is nice to have a little break from BF and it is fun!

Re: Starting Solids

My DD is just a few days older than yours, and we started cereal on Saturday. She isn't great with eating her formula, and always stares at our table food, so I was really hoping that she'd like it, but so far she doesn't seem to love it. When I offer her cereal, THEN she wants her bottle instead. I'm giving her a few days just to get used to the texture and the spoon, since it's just for practice anyhow. We go for her 4 month check up on Saturday, so I'll discuss further with the pediatrician. I know it's not important for her to have now, but I was really hoping that she'd like it. Now I'm hoping that she'll like the purees when we get to them.

Starting Solids

i started them 1 day after their 6 months birthday (they were born 1 month pre mature). i just mashed up some banana and added formula to it. they LOVE it!...day 3 of solids reagan will actually go to grab the little container of food if i place it down near her. teddy will cry if you dont feed him fast enough!

later on i did some oatmeal with formula- they also loved it.

i ordered a few of those organic veggie packets- miss ellas kitchen or something- so i will incorporate that too. it has pumpkin, rutabega and spinach and other stuff, too.

I started cereal at 5 months. After 2 weeks, I introduced vegetables, one at a time for 3 days in a row starting with green ones. Once I got through all the veggies, I started fruits. I never had a problem. DS eats like he may never eat again at every meal.

Re: Starting Solids

We started LO on oatmeal at exactly 4 months and he LOVES it. We are starting him on veggies this weekend.

I don't think there is any rush though.. we were really excited to start but I know a ton of people that waited until 6 months.

Re: Starting Solids

My Dr. said after 4mths i could start but if I were exclusively BF she wouldnt recommend starting any earlier than 6mths. So, if your DD has no interest then maybe you should just wait another month or so. Chat Icon

Starting Solids

We started after 6 months when DD would go into a trance watching us eat! She also started grabbing food off our plates.
First food was puréed avocado and puréed banana.
