Rear-facing later than 2
DS will be 2 soon and he is still rear-facing. He does not complain or seem to be in any pain that way. ExH says I should turn him, that he is uncomfortable. My question is how old is too old for rear-facing. What are your thoughts?

DS is 2 years 2 months and is still rear facing. We are planning to turn him soon, Im just waiting to find a car seat installation check point place to do it! DS could honestly care less too... but I felt like we made it this far, so we can turn him now!

DS didn't care that he was RF. I personally turned him though because I'm due with DC#3 in a few months and wanted to make the switch before the baby came.
When I was reading my instruction manual, mine states RF no more then 40 pounds but doesn't give a height. Check the manual for the seat you have though and see if there are limits to the seat.

Both mine were turned prior to 2 but definitely check our height/weight requirements. My 2yr 3 month old is at the Max height requirement for forward facing & now needs a booster

Re: Rear-facing later than 2
I just got mine installed forward facing (23 mons, 2 weeks) and my coworker (she's a certified tech) actually mentioned that if she could recommend it, she'd suggest that they were rear facing till booster seat (of course not feasible because there is a 40 pound limit).
if he's happy, def. keep going- mine was screaming and miserable... and I'd come out of the car shaking.

DD is 25 months and still rear-facing. She's so-so in the car and I'm sure turning her around would make her happier but everytime DH and I google the topic we get freaked out and keep her rear-facing

Re: Rear-facing later than 2
When they start driving, that's when you need to force them to face forward. Other than that, the longer they are rear-facing, the better. Even for adult passengers, rear-facing is safer than FF, but it's not really practical.

DS is a decently big boy (over 36" and 31lbs) and still rear facing at 29 months. I will keep him that way at least until 3, or until he reaches the limit (40lbs).

There is no maximum age limit for rear facing. Check the car seat's manual for weight/height limits. My son is 2 years 9 months old and still RF. He's perfectly happy that way, and he still has 10 lbs. to go before reaching the weight limit.

AJ went past 2yrs easily. Hey she wasn't complaining and she IS safer RF. So why rock the boat? I stay the only issue you need to watch is weight and height otherwise leave him RF as long as you can.

DD1 is about 28 lbs but about 37 or 38 inches at 2.5 years old (31 months technicaly). She's still RF'ing and I plan on keeping her that way until she outgrows her seat (40lbs).
