almost 10 month old and food
I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong with his meals but not sure how to move forward. Goes to Dr next week so I guess I'll get feedback then. In the meantime, what do you think?
He generally has 3-4 bottles a day (6oz of formula) each.
He has 3 meals. Either oatmeal (made with formula) or rice cereal (made with formula) and then a stage 2 food (fruit or vegetable or chicken/turkey/mac and cheese jar)
He only has 2.5 teeth and I do not really see him "mash with his jaw" He just started crawling "off his stomach" the past two weeks but only sometimes, often he is still "army crawling" which he has been doing a while now.
So do I start stage 3? small pieces of my food? those baby puffs? Yogurt?
He was born 1 month early under 4 lbs and last month was 18 lbs.
He'll be 10 months Nov. 1st

Re: almost 10 month old and food
Wow I am reading the related topics below. I can;t imagine him eating "real table" food. I must really be 'off' huh??

Re: almost 10 month old and food
My DS is nine months old and was also born a month early. He also eats three meals a day (oatmeal and stage 2 foods). We just started giving him puffs and soft foods like bananas, bread, pancakes, just to get used to solids. He makes a face at first but then gets the hang of mashing it with his gums. He only has two teeth right now. He hates the stage 3 foods (spits it out immediately!) so he's not completely ready for that yet.

Re: almost 10 month old and food
my son is almost 9 months and he eats puffs like crazy. He eats pancakes, bananas and small stuff. We're going to make an effort to eat dinner earlier so he can eat with us and i can give him more table foods. I think he's ready.
He has no teeth.
ETA: we are not doing stage 3 stuff. I personally hate the jarred meats. So we'll just be going to table foods instead... shredded chicken and so forth.

Re: almost 10 month old and food
DD is 8 months and has been on table foods since about 6.5 months old. She had 2 teeth when we started her on table foods. She loved/loves pasta (no sauce), steamed veggies, soups, pancakes, bagels, meatballs, etc. Just shred or cut everything into teeny, tiny pieces until DC gets the hang of it.

almost 10 month old and food
Sawyer gets 3 bottles a dya and still wakes up for 1 a night. This is a typical day for us
Breakfast- 1 whole banana, 2T greek plain yogurt and 2T baby oatmeal to bulk it up. We use the food processor to grind it up smooth.
Lunch- A vegetable and meat or leftovers we food process
Dinner- whatever we're having just in the food processor
He is 11 months old and JUST started tolerating Cherrios and thicker food. Before last week he would gag and choke. I think every baby is different. We still grind the food in the food processor to make it smooth, but it's a thick smooth. Does that make sense? AT this stage my daughter was eating table food, and I was worried also, but again every baby is different. HTH!

almost 10 month old and food
My DS is almost 10m and he eats some table food but mostly stage 2 and 3. He gets yogurt even though my Ped has you wait til a year. Puffs he has had since 6m. I give him table food but he doesn't like lots of it so we try again in a few days. He lives Cheerios.
As long as things are soft then they mash with their jaws.
DS only has 3 teeth

Re: almost 10 month old and food
DS is 6.5 months and eats Stage 2 and 3 foods along with Yoghurts and we just started table food. He eats puffs too and loves them. He has no teeth yet but he is getting used to the texture of stage 3 and table food. I think table food is better if they will take it at home i will just give him whatever we are having. The jars are very handy for daycare and on the go though.

Re: almost 10 month old and food
My 10 mo old (17 lbs) eats EVERYTHING under the sun!!! (except those she cannot have yet - like berries, peanuts, honey, etc)
she has been eating table food since 6-7 months..
she has even eaten a whole slice of pizza recently! and she has already tasted her brother's Chinese chicken and lo mein! She is our lil maniac when it comes to food - how she is only 17 lbs is beyond me - no clue where she puts it!!!
I start off with everything pea size and then gradually work up from there...with cheerios I started with them in half and a week later when she got the hang of that - I kept them whole
Now at 10 mo her favs are: grapes (I peeled them for about a month and cut them up in eighths - now I leave the skin on and still cut them up into 6-8 pieces), yogurt, cheese sticks cut up into pea-to lima bean sizes, chicken, pork, meatballs, pasta, rice, peas, corn, carrots, cucumber, cheerios, toast with cheese (my plainer version of a grilled cheese) plums, nectarines, peaches, pinapple, apple, pancakes, inside of a bagel, etc etc etc....really everything we eat she samples and is often asking for more!!!
ETA..oh and she did all this before she even had teeth...they really dont use their teeth....you would be amazed what they can do with all that extra saliva and strong gums and jaws...

This almost exactly-- I have been making DD"s food and I am officially done pureeing anything! I think every baby is different and goes at a different pace-- you have to just try them out with it-- and if they dont take to it just try again in a few weeks.
ETA: I started with puffs and the first time I did DD nearly choked on it-- I waited another couple of weeks and she was a pro! then I started giving little finger foods while "spoon feeding" her.. it is a transition, doesnt happen over night.
