Btdt c sect staying a extra day for nicu?

If your baby was in the nicu and was coming home day 5, were you able to stay an extra day? I had my c/s at almost midnight mon so tues started counting the days. They discharge on day 3 or 4. Today is day 4. They won't be sending one twin home until tomorrow since she is in nicu. The other twin is in regular nursery.

What are the chances of being approved to stay the extra day.I know I've heard of people doing this. It's hard enough to have them apart. Plus I have to walk 2 flights of stairs to get to the area of our house I'll be mostly staying in to recover. Its hard enough getting out of a hospital bed. (and no bathroom on first level and no bed on second)

Ps my bp was high a day yesterday out of nowhere. It's never been high in my life. Not sure if it's an issue

They will probably let you.... My baby was in the NICU too and I just told my OB that I was still sore (which I was) and that I lived on a 3rd floor walk up. Congrats on your double blessing!

DS was in the NICU for a long time, but they let me stay an extra day since I had to be put back on magnesium for elevated blood pressure and headache. My OB pushed to have me stay as long as I possibly could so maybe your OB can figure something out to get them to let you stay one extra day!

I didn't stay an extra day but I stayed till 11:59 pm on the 5 th day

My DS was born noon on Wednesday and I requested to stay the fourth night. I went home Sunday. He wasn't in the NICU but they weren't releasing him because his bilirubin was high and they wanted to watch him one more night. I had no problem getting the 4th night approved.

I've ready been here 4 nights because the 1st night I didn't even have them til almost midnight.

I didn't have a C but DS was in the NICU for 2 days after I was discharged and I stayed in the hospital's "parent room" which was a bare bones room with fold out chair and bathroom. I wanted to stay close so I could nurse. The hospital also had the option of renting a hotel like room. This was a hosp in the city not close to my house so going back and forth wasn't an option.

Were you in your "room" before midnight the night you had them? You can fight it. Tell your OB that you don't think you can get up the stairs at home. When I called my insurance company they stated that my OB needed to approve me. Once they had that, it didn't matter the reasoning. I also had blood pressure issues which could have been another reason to stay. I would speak with your OB and see what they say.

I stayed for 5 with both boys still in the NICU when I left. D came home at 7 days and R came home at 9 days

I'm here a 5th night. Not for bp but because my iron was really really low. They gave me a choice of 900 mg iron per day or a blood transfusion. They will monitor tomorrow.

My BP was high after my twins were born. Dr said it was very common post pregnancy and will go away after a few weeks on meds. However, due to the increase in my BP, he wanted me to stay the extra night. In reality he just wanted to give me one more day in the hospital with my babies.

I dont think insurance will cover extra time. I spent 5 days, as long as I could Boys were there 30.

I didn't have a c section but I was told no when I asked to stay an extra day (DD was most likely being discharged the next day). One of the nurses had been "sure" they would let me but when my doctor came he said he can't do that. Another doctor told me I should have said I was feeling dizzy so I could have stayed but I definitely wouldn't want them doing any unnecessary tests either. I hope you're able to stay, although I will say if you do go home, that extra night of sleep wasn't a bad thing either. Good luck!
