Can a child have a very very mild form of coxsackie?

Last week my dd had a low grade fever (somewhere between 100-101) for 3 days. I noticed what looked like a diaper rash but then began to spread down her legs. Then I noticed the rash on her belly and arms and a few spots on her hands. I also noticed a big white sore under her tongue. Even with all of this she was still kind of happy and playing and eatting.

I brought her to the oncall dr (her dr was not in). I immediately asked if it could be coxsackie and he brushed it off saying that it is a summer virus. He basically said it was just a reaction to the fever and the mouth was just a canker sore. Fast forward 2 days and she is fine, no more sore under tongue, rash is basically gone.

My dh drops her off at school this morning (she goes on tues and thurs mornings) and he receives a letter that there was a coxsackie outbreak in the school.

Can this be all just a weird coincidence or did my baby have coxsackie and the on call dr is a moron?

Yes that sounds like it to me. DD just got over coxsackie from an outbreak in her daycare classroom. Unfortunately DD had fever for 10 days, couldn't eat for 4 days. She only had the mouth sores and a little bit near her butt. Never affected the hands or feet, but she was quite sick and feeling awful. From what I've read and heard, it's popular in the summer and fall.

I really think my DD did once.
She had no fever to speak of, but it was going around her class and she got these very very small, barely noticeable marks on her wrists and soles of her feet.
No fever, no crankiness.
Then her feet started peeling a bit- and I hear that's an after effect of it.

I really think she had a VERY mild case of it.

Sounds very similar to what my son had and his Ped said it was coxsackie.

Considering how painful coxsackie could be, I was happy that he had a mild case of it.

I believe there are different strains of it, so next time he might not be as lucky.

Yep! Both my kids had a mild case. They were eating, playing, happy as can be. Fevers went up to 102.5 so they were a little bit clingy but other than that, they were eating normally and smiling and happy. Dr told me if one kid in daycare had it, they are most likely all going to get it. Within 2 days, every single kid was sent home with fevers and had the coxsackie virus.

Yes, they certainly can. Both of my kids just had it and it was very mild. Both had a 102 fever for not even 24 hours and then about a day later developed the tiny bumps on the hands, feet, and mouth, My 14 month old also had them on her butt and some of her outer thighs. The bumps never turned into sores and neither of them complained much. If they did, it was for about one day each. My pediatrician confirmed that my son did indeed have the coxsackie virus and to be prepared for my daughter to probably get it, since it is highly contagious. Turns out 2 other kids in his pre-k class also had it.

edited to add that coxsackie is def not just a summer virus. It is most prominent in the summer and early fall.
