Spinoff- Recircumcision question
For those who have to get their DS's re circumcised down the line, what was the reason? Was there anything you would've done differently when you had them circumcised originally?
I'm sorry, this is a very sensitive subject and I have already made the decision to have DS circumcised (so NO NEED to go there!) but I am undecided on how I will go about doing it. My ob said he'd do it on the second day and seemed confident (bordering on flip) so he did me no favors in reassuring me.
TIA

Spinoff- Recircumcision question
I didn't have DS's done yet but I asked the Urologist about it. He said it can happen and there really is not rhyme or reason to it. It can be because how the Dr did it but more so he said it is just due to how the baby heals.

Re: Spinoff- Recircumcision question
I do not regret my decision to circ but I do wish I had a urologist do it rather than my OB. Yeah, it costs more but it would have saved us all a headache. ds needed to be recirc because not enough was taken off & it was reattaching but he also had a narrow urethra opening. How would an obgyn know about that since it's not their specialty? The urologist told us that if he was the one to originally do the circ, he would have noticed it when ds was born he could have fixed it then & there. We figured out that this was the problem when ds was almost 2 & he had to go under, which wasn't fun.

That is my exact concern. Your insurance didnt cover having the urologist fix it?
Allison, did your insurance cover it? thanks!

I had to pay an extra co-pay & had to pay for the procedure & wait for the ins co to pay us back.

It is goign to cost us about $400 OOP. Which is why I am pushing to get it done this calendar year! I have money in my Flex spending account to cover it.

Spinoff- Recircumcision question
I just posted something similar. My gyno left extra skin on my DS. He is one and the ped says that we should be able to unattach by using vaseline and tugging at every diaper change. I REALLY do not want to recirc. If our next child is a boy he will be circ by a urologist--save my son the pain!

Spinoff- Recircumcision question
DS's original circ left a little too much skin, but that wasn't the main concern. There was reattachment in places but not all the way around. He also had skin bridges and an issue with the head which we would have never known about if we didn't see the urologist. Pulling back wouldn't have done anything in the long run. DH and I went to the urologist with the mind set of if it was purely cosmetic then we would wait, but if there were other issues then we would have it redone. The urologist was very open and honest about the physical issues that DS could have has he got older (which he would have had with or without the first circ anyway) so it was a no brainer for us to have it fixed.
Looking back, I wish I had a urologist come in to do it. DS was 7 weeks early and the original circ was done the morning of his discharge at 10 days old. He was so small and hadn't finished developing yet. If I have another boy in January you can bet your bottom dollar that I am NOT having an OB do the circ at all whether I go full term or early.

Re: Spinoff- Recircumcision question
So if you opt for a urologist to do it, how does that work? Do you have to wait till they're older? Can you have a urologist do it while they're in the hospital stiill? Thanks, I have no clue where to research this stuff, and I havent found a ped yet to ask.
