for this to be turned into a for/against drama thread is childish.

Then stop.
Stop having an opinion on my opinion
and it won't turn into a for/against
thread.
I'm sure the OP is torn since she posted about her own reservations creeping up hours before the 'guillotine'. It's a terrible time for a new mom to feel conflicted and I wanted to share the most poignant information I could to help steer her to a place of comfort and calm with her decision. If she chooses to cut her son, well then at least she looked at both sides (assuming she was pro cut to begin with and then adding on my anti cut info) and she can feel comfortable going forward in an informed way.
So just stop turning the thread.

WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU? YOU ARE DISGUSTING and not for your opinion but how you choose to express it.

Re: How was your DS's reaction to / recovery from circumcision?

I am with Grill on this. Educate yourself and save your son! My first son was circumcised with no problems. He later passed from SIDS(which I know was in NO way related) but I felt horrible that I put him through that pain in his short little life for no reason other than my lack of knowledge. I too was told "he slept right through it" which I now truly believe either wasn't true or he was shockedChat Icon

My 18 month old now is completely whole with no problems.

Please read about it before going through with it. Once it's done it can never be fully undone. Check out Saving Our Sons on facebook(they also have a web page).

Wow.

OK, well, my sons were both circumcised. Both were/are fine.

I will say that my cousin's son had to be circumcised at 5 years old due to many infections--and his father is a pediatrician, so I know they did everything they could to keep it clean.

Now that is only one case, but I thought I would pass the info along.

Bottom line....talk with your DH, and follow what feels right to you both.

This is a tough part of parenting that no one prepares you for!

I do not have an opinion on your opinion. I am stating facts. Your "reputable" studies are one sided and completely biased. For something to be reputable it needs to show the pros, cons and a controlled base. Your post shows a one sided judgemental opinion based on something the supposed thoughts of a newborn. Again, for your "reputable" information to say that an infant "thinks he might die" is a little much.

I have to agree with you that it is a terrible time for a new mom to feel conflicted but to throw biased information at her is going to do nothing but make it more difficult. If the studies came from a source such as the AAP or WHO then maybe more people would be open to them.

To the OP: Please look up other legitimatly reputable and double sided sources if you are torn about your decision.

To the OP, congratulations on the birth of your twins! I hope everyone is feeling well. We circ'd DS and he did great. FTR- I let DH make the decision and he is NOT circ'd.

Grill - do you have some sort of alert that goes off whenever someone posts on circumcision, breast feeding, or CIO?

But then you went and spammed us with like, multiple pages of radical propaganda. Look, I respect your passion for the penis, but come on now. Nobody wants to be beat over the head with your opinion. Just state your case and move on.

I feel like I need to substantiate my opinion with reputable research and relevant resources since it's a minority opinion. I know it's a lot. The OP and other readers can pick and choose or ignore. It's there for the taking or leaving...not beating anyone with it.

wayyyy to bogart someone's post about something legitimate with your personal propaganda and scare tactics... i never get involved with these types of threads but you really crossed the line - you are dealing with a hormonal recently post partum woman who is super vulnerable and you are purposefully TRYING to scare her. way to be a supportive woman... MY "mommy instinct" is to virtually kick you in the face...

You could have easily posted your opinion along with "If you would like more research on this, I'd be happy to FM you". But no, you are a notorious (around these parts) SHIT stirrer. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How was your DS's reaction to / recovery from circumcision?

Hi everyone- thanks for the responses!

I've had a very rough twin pregnancy & recovery from c-section that I feel I haven't been able to research this properly or even think straight. Let alone, learning to care of two newborns!

In the hospital, it felt like every 5 mins, someone was asking about circumcisibg. I knew I didn't want it that soon & am so glad I held off b/c DS ended up in NICU & didn't need any extra strains on his system.

I appreciate all of the responses, including Grill's.

I think I will postpone the appt until I can research & consider enough to feel confident in my decision.

DH is fine w/either option.

If you feel you are unsure then yes, you need to do your own research and make whatever decision you feel is best.

Just know that if you hold off too long your DS will have to be put under general anesthesia to be circumcised. You might want to inquire about that when you call to postpone your appointment.

I think it's great that you are holding off to educate yourself. I had a mom in my due date group(when I had my second baby) that had a son that had a botched circumcision. Her story haunted me and was what made me think about researching it. Without reading her story I probably wouldn't have thought twice about circumcising my future son/s. if you decide later that its best for your son then it can still be done. But if you just went along with it now you may later change your mind and regret it. Either way it will work out and your son will be greatful just knowing you took your time to try to educate yourself and do what you felt was best. Congratulations on your twins!!

I'm new to the parenting board so I don't know the history w/Grill....and I appreciate all of the support.

I am a mess in a lot of ways.

But it's ok w/me that Grill responded. I'm going to look into a variety of sources.

DS is already so fussy, I hate to add anything to what seems like a difficult transition into the world.

My girl is much calmer / having an easier time.

Ooh, ish, didn't know that. There is no way I would put him under general. So I guess I do have to really decide for sure b/c he will be 10 days old tomorrow.
And it seems like 2 weeks is he cutoff.

Circumcision Trauma....CLICK HERE.
Your Mama instincts are kicking in. Go with your gut. Save your boy from this horrific procedure...that yes, he will eventually forget...but it will still impact his concept of the world. Just teach him to wash himself well....and there are no health ramifications. Women have folds too, and we don't cut the female clitoris off. It's the same tissue. Save your baby and listen to what your gut is telling you.

Disclaimer: The above paragraph is based on one Mom's opinion after she considered all the facts. It's not an arguable stance, just an opinion.

Jesus Christ Grill!!!! Its like some bat signal in the sky tells you whenever a mom or pregnant woman on this website wants to talk about circumcisions, vaccinations, CIO, or breastfeeding. You just show up with your crazy, judgemental and ridiculous posts. I hope the OP has enough sense to ignore your "advice" like most of us other moms on this site do!

We can always rely on you to bring the crazy!

Re: How was your DS's reaction to / recovery from circumcision?

DS was upset when they brought him to me, his face was all red and scrunched up from crying. So I know he was in pain. But he was completely fine maybe an hour after that and he healed nicely.

I left it up to DH to decide whether to do it, so when he came back crying I cried with him and told him Daddy made me do it.

But even so, if we have another DS, I'd have it done again.

If your DS is out of the hospital then you should be having a urologsit perform it.

I was unsure if I wanted my DS to have it done and we did not do it in the hospital. I called a uruologist (rec by my OB) and sheduled it for whe he was 4 months. he was going tohave to be put under and as it got closer I was not uncomfortable with the circumsion I was uncomfortable with the beign put out. I cancelled that appt and now at almost 10m we have scheduled it for him. I met with a different urologist and he made me completely at ease. The risks with putting him out are about the same as driving on the highway and having something happen. I am at peace with my decision and will be doing it next month and it will be performed at Cohen's Childrens Hospital with great Dr and staff. Let me know if you have any other questions as I went through all the back and forth. It is a very personal decision for you and your DH and no one should be pushing you one way or another. And some of the things said above are not neutral and reputable sites.....A good urologist will talk you through the pros and cons and not try and talk you into anything. I love ours. He was very neutral on it.

Re: How was your DS's reaction to / recovery from circumcision?

No experience with my own child, but all three of my nephews were circumcised by a mohel during his respective bris, and all healed absolutely fine.

Grill, once again you come on here spouting your propaganda, without understanding that your opinion (to which you are entitled) would have more impact if you did not come across like such an extremist. Research is social psychology shows that people's views are impacted most by moderately presented opinions.

ETA: To the OP, you have to do what makes you comfortable. Good luck with your decision. Chat Icon

DS was just over 1 when he had to be put under to have his circumcision redone. I was VERY nervous, but the urologist (Dr. Palmer) was VERY calm and extremely reassuring as was the anesthesiologist. I was able to go into the ER while they gave DS sweet air. Overall we were in and out of the LIJ outpatient center (across the street from LIJ/Cohens) in just about 4.5-5 hours. That's total time, including wait time in the beginning and end. If its just a simple circumcision it could even be less.

He healed quickly and easily, and it looks great!!
