Mastitis
I woke up at 1 am with severe breast pain and chills. I had the same thing when I was bf ds1. Now 9 months in with ds2, i think I may have mastitis. I am so upset. We are leaving at 4am for vacation. I do not want to not go, but I am feeling so run down and my breast hurts so bad. I have been using heat and nursing a lot today. Please cross your fingers for me!

Re: Mastitis
Try to use an ice pack. Bacteria thrive in moist, hot environments. Also....nurse as much as humanly possible while massaging the affected area. Maybe try laying DS on the bed and you nurse from above....gravity and his sucking may help unclog the duct. Hope you feel better fast. Mastitis, as you know, is horrible.

Re: Mastitis
The only thing that worked for my mastitis was antibiotics. I tried everything else and it just got worse. At the end I had a 104 fever and was hallucinating. Can you call your ob and see if she will call in a script to your pharmacy?

Re: Mastitis
Please go get a prescription, I didn't and ended up in the er. I now have the nastiest scar on my chest. Thank god, it didn't affect breastfeeding, but it is ugly and was ten times more painful being cut there then giving birth.

Re: Mastitis
I agree - get the antibiotics to kick it in the butt as early as possible...I took them at the first sign of chills, fever and redness last week and was feeling better the next day after starting them.
Hope you feel better soon...try to rest in the car if you can

Same! See if your OB will call in an Rx. If you start now, you will feel almost back to normal by tomorrow morning. One dose eliminated the bulk of my pain, by dose 2-3, I was back to normal.
