Do you think traveling 25 mins to a kid's party is too far?

Would you pass up a classmate's party b/c it was a 25/30 min drive drive from your neighborhood? Would it also factor in to your decision if you had more than one child but only your child who was the classmate was invited?

For me, it would probably depend on the kid. A family member- absolutely. A friend from school- possibly not.

25 minutes is nothing. I mean, I think it's unreasonable to expect less. Not like everyone lives on the same block. I would say that an hour + is more where people might say forget it.

I don't think it's uncommon at all. I have gone to multiple parties at Pump It Up and Bouncers and Slydos, and those are both about 20 minutes away from me. I didn't think twice about the distance.

I have to admit that we did not go to EVERY one of these preschool parties where they invite the whole class. It just adds up to a lot of gifts to buy for kids you barely know, and a lot of weekend afternoons that could be spent doing something nice as a family. But-- we did not decide whether to go or not based on distance... it was more whether we had something else going on that day, whether DH was free to stay home with our other child, etc.

We just did that and we had at least 80% of the class attending. There were a few kids whose parents knew each other and they carpooled but they got the kids to the party!

If it was a weekend party I would be fine with it. Weekday - not so much.

Yes.
I actually passed up a classmate's party that was even closer
I didn't know this kid or her mother at all- never even saw them.

The distance wouldn't be a big deal to me.

This was a bigger problem for me when my kids were younger. If parties were during the week we couldn't go since I didn't have anyone to watch the other kid for me. Weekend parties weren't a problem.

No, for me 25 minutes on long island is nothing. I take DS to deer park outlets and that is 25 minutes away. i take him to safari adventures and that is 25 minutes. It wouldnt bother me at all and would welcome the opportunity for DS to participate.

Re: Do you think traveling 25 mins to a kid's party is too far?

I think it depends on how well I know the person and where the venue is.

Last weekend, we attended a party of a kid we don't know very well. I like the mom a lot but our kids don't see each other often.

I drove 25 minutes and younger DS ended up falling asleep in the car. It ended up being a park playdate with cake, which would have been totally fine if it was local.

For us, the dynamics have changed a lot since DS#2 became a toddler. Sometimes younger DS won't be invited. Other times both are invited but timing is off for the little one. DH isn't always available to watch younger DS.

Not at all, but I am usually looking to get out of the house for a few hours on weekends.

25-30 min drive is fine. More than that, I would decline.

Depends on the day and time, but it's usually not a big deal. The next three birthday parties I attend will be at least 25 minutes from the house.

Generally not an issue.

The only time I wasn't thrilled was when it was a Saturday party that started at 9am! Didn't love having everyone dressed, fed, and on the road by 8:30 on a Saturday!

I don't expect to get anywhere in less than 25 minutes, even when I'm in my own neighborhood. But I like to drive.
