2 weeks
I agree.
I think 2 weeks is a good amount of time.
My Mom stayed for 1 week when I had LO and I wish she could've stayed a little longer. At some point, I'm sure you're going to want to be alone with LO and DH but having an extra hand those first days are just priceless.

I think you need to go with what your gut tells you. For me anything over 3-4 days would be too much. I personally prefer to get into my own routine without people getting in the way.
I agree with this. I was in the same situation as you. My mom is gone and DH's mom & grandma came from OOS for the birth (scheduled c/s) and planned to stay for 3 weeks. After two weeks they took an early flight home.
I really do love my DH's mom and grandma. But DH's mom is not my mom...kwim? If it were my mom I would have had her move in but it's different when its not your mom.
I felt like I was walking on egg shells in my own house. All I wanted to do was come home from the hospital with my DD and enjoy that time with her and my DH. I felt that I had to worry about what they were doing and if they needed anything and I am not comfortable with other people "taking over" in my house. They were there to be helpful but in the end they got bored and would go out during the day (which was fine by me) but they weren't too helpful. I was doing laundry and cleaning. The one thing they did do was cook which was definitely helpful.

I might rethink it if I were you. Believe me....company is the last thing you'll want. I didn't let anyone over for months ha ha
I agree. I can't imagine wanting ANYONE in my space, when we are starting out as a new family with our DC. But that's me, I guess some others don't care.
Ditto all of this! I would not want ANYONE staying in my home, let alone visiting for more than an hour or two.
Do you plan to have her come immediately when you give birth? Is your DH taking off any time to stay home and bond with baby/help out? If he is I would at least tell her to wait until DH goes back to work if you really want her to come and stay. I think you should have some time to get to know each other, find a routine and bond as a family before you have another person around 24/7, but that's just my opinion.
I would have her stay at someone else's house if she really wants to come and no more than one week, but again, that's just me.

Re: How long would you have MIL stay?
My parents came for about 2 weeks. They did everything possible to help me and I was sad when they left.

How long would you have MIL stay?
I would want her to come about 2 weeks AFTER the baby is born. Those first few weeks are a little bit of an adjustment and bonding time that I think is so important for mom, dad, and baby. Your hormones are out of whack and you can be very sensitive.
Once the first 2 wks happens, then maybe let her come for a week or two.

Re: How long would you have MIL stay?
My DH was home for 2 weeks. I'd have her come after DH goes back to work (if he gets a 2 week leave). You'll most likely be adjusted a bit and can use the help if you need to run errands or just want some "you" time. I'd have her come for 2 weeks.

Re: How long would you have MIL stay?
My favorite moments of my life was the first days home from the hospital with just our lil family.. ,my husband, DS and I .... i can not imagine someone else being there for all the snuggling, walking around naked, letting my boobs heal while bfing, ugly bathroom trips etc . if she lives far away i would say wait till you are comfy for her to visit.

Re: How long would you have MIL stay?
If I was close with my MIL like Iam with my mom I'd say 3-4 weeks but I'm the type I don't mind company as long as they don't expect me to clean up after them!

if you're husband is going to be home then I would say avoid her coming until after he returns to work. It's nice to have alone time and get to know the baby and your new role as parents without the company. Maybe she could come when DH goes back to work and stay.

How long would you have MIL stay?
I had my twins in October & my step mom stayed for 3 weeks. I love her to death but it was TOO LONG for both of us.
