When they do the epi, Did it totally freak you out that you couldn't feel your lower body!?! These are the things I think of.

I've had both a spinal and an epi and it's not weird at all. You can "feel" your legs but it's a weird numb feeling. There will be pressure but now pain. Hope that makes sense!

I didn't feel them, but it was like PP said..you feel some pulling as they are working, but it's not painful...

Re: BTDT c section.
I was scared leading up to the c-section, but during prep and throughout the surgery (it goes soooo quick)- nothing bothered me. its hard to explain but everything was just... happening. thats how it felt for me.

It's like you know your legs are there but you just can't feel them, but since you are laying there still, it's not like you notice that you can't feel them. Make sense?

BTDT c section.
Its not painful at all. The first needle is uncomfortable then they insert the epidural which you don't feel. My legs went numb and then they began to make the insision which you don't feel. All you may feel is the tugging as they try to deliver the baby (babies in your case).

Re: BTDT c section.
Yes, I totally freaked. Totally. Had a panic attack on the table. For me, the feeling of paralysis was the worst part of the whole thing.
I was terrified for months leading up to my 2nd c-section. The first thing I asked the anesthesiologist that day was if I could have a sedative (you can't until baby is out). Through the surgery, I had my DH flip through a photo album of my DD to focus on her and not the fact that I couldn't move. I also kept repeating in my mind, "Don't try to move your legs...don't try to move your legs." I made it through with no sedative! Same thing for the 3rd.
I can't believe anyone wouldn't feel paralyzed. You ARE paralyzed!
Anyway, maybe you won't mind it...evidently most people don't. Maybe it's only me.

I feel bad for the people that felt pulling or tugging. I didn't feel anything. My doc was just talking to me about random crap and then I heard DD cry.
I didn't even know they started and I think it was better that way!

Totally agree. It freaked me out and I was scared. I had a rough time but maybe it was because my c-section was an emergency one and I was starving and thirsty. I wanted it to be over with.

I went in and tried for a VB but ended up with a CS. It never freaked me out cause I was so happy not to have the pain of the contractions.

This! Totally didn't freak me out at all. If the dark thing didn't work then I'd be mow worried. My fear was the spinal not working and I'd feel everything. I asked the for any anti nausea meds the moment I felt quesy. It worked and kept me calm. I felt some pulling and tugging so never felt paralyzed at all. Not anything that hurt. Just weird. As soon as the baby was out the rest was nothing bc I was concentrating too much on the baby. With DS 1 I was out under and that is the worst feeling being under than wakin up so discombobulated and hearing you had a baby ANC had no recollection of anything. You'll be ok... The spinal or epi does not last long.

Re: BTDT c section.
I had a planned c and an unPlanned c. Planned c was fabulous - didn't feel a thing and I could have laid there posting on Lif if I wanted, having a cavity filled was more uncomfortable. Loved being numb and there was so much going on it didn't freak me out at all.

I was nauseous for about 5 minutes after the epi and spinal tap. I told them and they said it was normal. I also did not like not feeling my legs. I like being in control of myself and not feeling my legs made me very nervous.

Re: BTDT c section.
How long the numbness last after you are all done and stiched up?
As you can tell I missed my c section class. I was on bed rest and also didn't feel the need to watch a video of one.

i did feel sick for maybe 2 minutes. i think it was a combination of anxiety and the realization that within 15 mins, he would be born. I didn't say anything, just focused on breathing and was OK again.
once i was in recovery, it took maby 1.5 hours to feel and move my legs again. That was when I went up to maternity. They wouldn't move me to the maternity ward until I could move my legs.
Then i got wheeled to a room and two male nurses helped to move me from one bed to the other.

Re: BTDT c section.
I've had 2 c-sections. With DS I was so tired from natural labor I don't remember a thing about getting the spinal.
With my twins I remember feeling a tingling sensation down the whole right side of my body as it was being injected. And then it seemed instantly my lower half of my body felt heavy.
I don't remember how long until I felt my lower half after DS. But with the girls it was probably like an hour. I remember feeling my left side pretty quickly but not being able to feel my right. It freaked me out but the nurse assured me it was normal. And maybe like a half hour after I felt my left I was able to wiggle my toes on the right.
