SPR... Side job for SAHM
Anyone consider or work as a real estate agent? How did you go about doing it? Is it doable with kids and trying to get some extra money on the side?
I'm in nj, but want to start looking into it. I would still love to go back to school to get my masters as a teacher, but I have a 1 and 3 yr old so not for some time. Recently left my job as a sales support and marketing person for a telecom co. My 3 yr old got accepted into the local special Ed preschool I was not happy at work, DH was doing well so I left my job so caber be with my boys. Now I would love to do something like real estate. Possible?

I know a bunch of people who did do it and they thought it would be easy as a PT gig. There is way more time that goes into it than you see fromt he outside. And to be successful you have to put time in to make money.

Also you can FM either Beth or Christine...both are always on the Home board and can give you info since they both changed careers to Real Estate.

This. I got my license and it was really hard to to it without doing it full time. I tried it before I had kdis and was working a full-time job.

I've never looked into it... But I would think it would be tough to do part time. Its one of those things where in order to make money, you have to be out showing houses, meeting w potential buyers or sellers... And you might spend a lot of time w people, and then in the end they decide not to sell or buy right now. I also think its probably a lot of evening or weekend hours, which is tough as far as missing family time when your DH is off.

I agree with this, also there are costs to consider. Most agents are independent consultants and have to put out money to advertise etc.

I know a lot of real estate brokers (both residential and commercial). To be successful, you have to be available all the time.
When I was a SAHM, I flirted with the idea of becoming a broker. I axed the idea quickly because my weekends would be shot.

Ita, weekends would be very busy for an agent
