Infant socialization worries
My 12mo old dd is showing great interest in other children and i want to start socializing her with other children. I have no other dd, she has no cousins and i really dont have any friends with dc yet.
I tried le play cafe which was fun but not realistic to go there regularly for $12 for two hours when she really only plays for 1. Gymboree, little gym are too $$ right now for us. There seems to be very few library programs for infants in this age range by me.
Do you know of any libraries in Nassau with activities for this age range? Can i even go to other libraries except my own for these activities? Do you know of any other cheap baby socialization activities in the area?
I was a very lonley only child since my mother didnt really try to give me opportunities to play with other children. As a result i became very independent(too much i think) and introverted. i just dont want that to happen to her. Maybe she is too young for me to be so worried about this?

Re: Infant socialization worries
i agree about posting for a play date. I'm sure there are other mommies in your same position.
My dd is only 4 months and I don't live on LI anymore. If I did and she was a bit older, I'd love playdates!

I think she is a little young to be worried about this. At thate age, babies don't really play "together" anyway, kwim? But I understand your concerns.

Re: Infant socialization worries
I would join a mom's club.
I have been taking DS since he was 4 months old. I took him while his older brother went to preschool. We now have a ton of toddler friends.

Join the moms club. It is an international organization for stay at home and part time working moms. There are individual local chapters. Google their website and search for your chapter.
It has been great for me and dd

Re: Infant socialization worries
I would post your area and try to organize a play date. My kids are older so they would be no fun for your baby. The open play places get very pricey. The library is a good idea, and Barnes noble have story time in massapequa, tons of kids there .
My gym or little gym might be a nice idea too

What about a Mother Center? There are two on LI that I know of. One is in Farmingdale and the other is in East Rockaway. You get to meet other moms and your child gets to interact with other kids. Win win for all!

Infant socialization worries
I go to other libraries a lot. My son is 12 months also. You have to look around at their websites and call ahead to see what their policies are for out of district people.
I am also looking into the RVC Rec Center since it isn't too pricey.
I would love to go to some GTGs set up on here, but I haven't seen any posted.
I am in a few Meetup groups, but the times haven't been too great for me. You should check that out for sure!

Infant socialization worries
My local library doesn't have programs for my DS- 15 months- but I take him to other local libraries and participate in their programs. We took a break in the summer, but DS loves them and we plan to try a few more out in the fall. I am SAHM too- where are you located? As much as I love my friends, none of them have kids yet except for one so when they come over it is more for me than for DS. So I am always looking to add to my social circle- I will be in Commack as of labor day weekend. FM me if you want to get together!

Re: Infant socialization worries
Go on meetup.com and see if there are any playgroups in your area. I joined one when my twins were 15 months and they are now almost 4, and I have a 19 month old. We still go to playdates with the group, and I have met some really good friends as well.
