I am starting to put him down drowsy etc...to let him learn to fall asleep on his own better. Sometimes he is great with it and sometimes he does cry. With my DD I rocked her till she was 1 years old...not doing that again with this one lol. I did CIO with her at 1 year....I just read The Sleep Lady's Good Night, Sleep Tight....IDK I think staying in his room too long like that or where he can see me makes it worse.

I do find the quicker I leave the room the better. I cuddle her for a minute with the lights out and then lay her down and I'm out of there. As long as she's tired but not overtired she usually doesn't cry or stops once I leave the room. If she wakes during the night I make sure it's really dark when I put her back down so she can't see me leave and that seems to keep her from crying.

DS immediately passes out after his last bottle of the night. Its great in a way but now he is so used to going to sleep that way that if he wakes up in the middle of the night he expects a bottle out of habit. Trying to break that but its so hard!

What we did for both our boys at that age was: nurse them, then read 2 or 3 short books, rock them while singing 1 or 2 songs, then kiss them goodnight, put them in their crib, and leave. I think it's really important to have a bedtime routine at that age, whatever the routine might be. Babies find comfort and security in patterns, routines, and predictability.
