Do you attend birthday parties during naptime?
I RSVPd yes for both kids to a birthday party this past weekend at 1:00. We are family friends. I ended up leaving the toddler at home so he could nap. I tried to get him to nap earlier around 11:30 but it did not happen.
Now I feel rude for only bringing 1 kid when I RSVPd for 2. I brought 2 gifts - 1 from each kid although 1 kid did not attend. She gave out personalized favors with the monogrammed initials so the little one got a favor even though he did not attend.
Do you attend birthday parties during naptime?

I have recently and attended for 2-3 hours until DD got cranky and then we left and she just took a later nap than usual.

If they're napping and I can avoid waking them to go, I would have no problems leaving one home to nap for a short birthday party.
If it was a family or close friend thing where I know we will be there all day long, I'd usually wait till they wake up to go and bring everyone.
I give our favors at our parties for the siblings who couldn't attend, I wouldn't feel bad for not brining one.

so far we've only been to family birthday parties so we go as soon as DS wakes up if he's sleeping before the party. otherwise, I will go to the party and hope he makes it through or put him to sleep in the stroller if it's possible.
a friend of mine already told me she is going to be almost 2 hours late to DS's party because her son needs to nap. so everyone is different.

Yes - I've gone to parties or family events when it was my DD's naptime. I figure it's not all the time and she will survive until she gets really cranky. While I try and make sure she is on some sort of schedule, at the end of the day I won't let her nap times dictate my social life. She usually adjusts pretty well.

As much as I hated to mess with naps when my DD was little I generally would skip the nap (or try to get her to nap earlier if possible) and go to the party. I figured it was one day and I hated to have her miss things. She usually bounced back okay.

same here. I usually try and get him up earlier that day and leave earlier in the car so he'll nap a bit earlier. Its hit or miss with him whether its worked or not.
I think its ok that you didnt bring both kids since one was already asleep.

Yes, all the time. She naps around 1 and that's a popular time for parties. Usually she will take a quick nap in the car on the way there or the way home.
If she is super cranky when we get home, I put her to bed a little earlier.

generally no i do not. Jacen is 4 now and so it's okay if he skips his nap for birthday parties. But when he was younger... no. Sometimes i'd wake him up earlier to go though.

This exactly. It helps that my kids will sleep anywhere.

i rearrange her nap schedule for things like that. i usually plan it so she sleeps in the car on the way there, and i will sit in the car until she wakes up. her naps are much shorter that way and she gets crankier earlier but it works for us.
if i had two kids i might have to employ a different strategy but when possible i do usually try to shape DD's schedule around whatever we have to do that day instead of the other way around. she's always been a pretty go with the flow kinda baby/kid.

When I had DD, I was the same way. DS came along and said EF that. He is a beast without a nap.
We move or skip nap for parties but DS helped me understand why some people don't.

i am always the type to worry about whether he gets his nap because my tired toddler is a miserable toddler
that being said, my nieces 3rd bday party was in CT (1.5 hour drive) at 12pm. My son normally naps 1230-330. I was WORRIED that he would be a nightmare but he was fine and had a blast. He napped on the way home.
in the future, i will not RSVP no to a birthday party because of nap time. it worked out fine.

I won't skip a party for nap time.
I try to get them to nap a little earlier.
Or they get a quick nap in the car.
a party with a 1pm start doesnt work to well for us. I will shorten their nap or carry them to the car and let the sleep the rest of the way.I will show up 1/2 hour later, if I have to. We figure it out.
Life's too short to skip a party

My DS is 21 and naps from 1230-230 or 3 everyday. We went to a party over the weekend from 12-3. He did fine! He had so much fun that he forgot about napping lol

DS's nap was all over the place until recently. He now naps in the early afternoon.
Most all parties we get invited to either start at 10/11 or 3/4. 1:00 is a rare time slot for us. I think it is the first 1:00 we've been invited to for at least 6 months.
I'm going to take him to the next one if we get invited at that time. hopefully he will have a good time and not be cranky.
