when do they drop the bottle?
DS has just transitioned from formula and is now fully drinking milk in his bottles (he's 11.5 months)
At what point do we drop the bottles and go all sippy cup? And should i be using the straw kind or the spout kind with milk?
he's been using the spout kind for months now when he drinks water, but he dribbles it everywhere and i don't want him to do that with the milk.
any suggestions?

Re: when do they drop the bottle?
Our DD dropped it completely by 1 year. It was a much easier transition than we thought. We have used the straw sippy cups since about 8 months because I had read it is better for speech development. We started first by replacing one at a time. She was getting 3 bottles at that point, one morning, one afternoon and one night. We took away the afternoon first, then when it went fine, took away night and then the morning. Eventually, around 16 months we started just giving her the night sippy with her dinner and then now at 20 months we do her morning one with her breakfast (and we stopped the afternoon around 15 months and just upped her other two. She gets about 16 oz a day.)

I wouldn't rush him off bottles yet - he's still a baby really! My DS was off bottles by 16 months and we weaned him off slowly. We replaced the afternoon bottle with a sippy of milk, then a week later replaced the breakfast bottle too and we kept it like that for a while. The last to go was his bed time bottle. Especially since I was using the Playtex drop-ins I just finished my box and he was done with bottles!
We use only straw cups as that's supposed to be better for their mouth and speech development. If he's drinking from a straw, he might not dribble the water/milk out, maybe?

Re: when do they drop the bottle?
we didn't try until 15 months. It was MUCH eaiser than I thought it would be.
We did his mid-day first, then morning, then PM. We replaced with the nuby soft spout cup. Not a single complaint. He never even asked for a "bottle" again.

when do they drop the bottle?
DS is 16 months and still gets one bottle, before bed. I know I have to start weaning him, but I am dreading it!

Re: when do they drop the bottle?
We got rid of them by 13 months. We started at 12 months with switching the afternoon bottle, then morning and finally evening.
DS had no trouble with switching at all. He still uses spout cups for milk. We use straw cups for water. I should probably start trying to switch to all straws, but I have to go buy more first....

DS was similar. Started the transition to milk around the same time as we switched the afternoon bottle. Then we did the morning and then the night one last. At about 18 months he stopped drinking the afternoon one for the most part so I took it away. He has a straw cup in the morning and one at night after eating dinner.

Re: when do they drop the bottle?
DD was off bottles by 10 months. She uses a straw sippy cup which I introduced around 8 or 9 months I think. The straw cups are much less messy than the spout ones for us.

Re: when do they drop the bottle?
DS dropped his bottles around 14 months. i was already exposing him to sippy cups and would give him a small cup with handles and a straw of milk at lunch. once i got him really good on straw cups i just replaced his 2 daily bottles with straw cups (i like the tommee tippy cups). he could care less that i did that.
i think you can give it some more time before you take them away. wait til he masters the cups

We did it at 14 months. 12 months adjusted. That's when we started them on milk. We started off with regular sippy cups and then moved them to straw sippys.

Re: when do they drop the bottle?
I did it so late with DS #1. He was over 2 when we dropped the bottle. He was only getting one bottle at night from about 18 months on. He loved it so much!!

Re: when do they drop the bottle?
We did it right after they turned one. The regular platex sippy cups with the hard spout worked best for us. For the first few days they didn't drink alot of milk but drank plenty of water and we made sure they supplemented dairy with yogurt/cheese.
It was an easy transition for us but my kids were never really attached to their bottles for some reason.
Good luck!

Re: when do they drop the bottle?
logan led the way, he took to the sippy like a champ at exactly 1 year... can't hurt to try, if it doesn't take then try again in a month... thats how we saw it
