potty training ... did you use ...

Looking to start sometime soon potty training DD. However i cant decide if i should get her, her own potty or just buy something that goes over the regular toliet. What did you do?

Something about her own potty skeeves me out, and yes i know that makes no sense since i change diapers Chat Icon plus i feel like why train her in one and then have to swtich.

But then i wonder if its easier and better for her to have her own.

I plan on getting a travel one for emergencies in the car.

Re: potty training ... did you use ...

i have begun potty training (not really successful yet)

i got the seat that goes on the toilet because i agree with you ~ cleaning out that little potty just seems gross.

he sits on it just fine and uses his stool to climb up.

good luck!

We used both but I would say in the few days where I was training her she primarily used her own little potty. It was more exiting for, it played music, it was a princess potty........it just motivated her a little more.

We have the same princess potty. What is nice about it is that it also has a seat that goes over the regular toilet. DD isn't a fan of sitting on the big potty yet. I think she gets scared being up so high.

Re: potty training ... did you use ...

We have both. The smaller potty is easier for him to use.

Pee isn't a problem to clean. You just take out the smaller bucket part and clean it. Poop is disgusting, I'm not going to lie.

My DS isn't potty trained yet, so I can't really say which is better. But it is more convenient to take his smaller potty down in the basement with us when we're trying to train him instead of making him run back upstairs whenever he has to go.

we're in the midst of toilet learning, and use both. But mostly the seat that goes on top of the toilet. Bjorn has one that is working nicely.

he doesn't seem to have too much interest in the little potty. the first few days he was into it, now he chooses the toilet.

Re: potty training ... did you use ...

we have the toilet seat with the built in child seat. we also have little potties. both of my girls felt more comfortable going on the little potty at first. i don't blame them. they were so small and the adult potty is so big for them! the little potty also allows them to be independent earlier. Just keep wiping the little one down!

Re: potty training ... did you use ...

DD#1 potty trained at 27 months and used a seat that sat on top of a regular toilet. DD#2 used nothing, just a regular toilet(held herself up), she potty trained at 24 months. I would never use those little potties unless my toddler was scared of the toilet. They gross me out. DS is 17 months and asks to sit on the toilet. He has no problems holding himself up. I know if he were to pee though that he would pee out of the toilet so I plan to get a seat for the toilet so he doesn't pee everywhereChat Icon

Also, potty training on a regular toilet makes using public toilets no problem from the start. And then after they train on one of those little potties you have to train they to use a big potty, more work.

I had the smaller potty in the bathroom for a good 6 months before I even attempted training. He would come in with me & play with it/on it and got used to sitting on it (clothed) when he was playing. When it came time to train I took the toy potty out of the bathroom & went right to the seat that goes on the big toilet. I found he was comfortable & familiar with the whole concept by then so we didn't need the little bowl.

thanks everyone. I think i am leaning towards using just the regular toliet. She goes to daycare so there wont be her "own" potty there so the more i think about it the regular toliet sounds like the best Idea!

Same, and just got a travel one for when we're out for a long time and there is no potty (we went apple picking this weekend and there were only port-a-potties. I'm not ready for that Chat Icon )

We got a little travel one too (Amazon had it for like $10) and let me tell you, that thing is AWESOME!!!! Such a lifesaver when we're on long road trips or even locally when we can't get to the bathroom fast. I just set it up in the back of my SUV and she uses it no problem. I highly recommend getting one. Chat Icon

Re: potty training ... did you use ...

for those that use the adult potty, I just don't get how do they climb up there? You just use a stool? Which one if I can ask?

I used a cheap plastic Ikea stool. At 24 months it was more then enough help for my DD.
