It is recommended that new walkers don't wear shoes until they can get across a room without falling. Additionally, new walkers should only wear shoes outside. In the house they should be allowed to walk barefoot (or socks).

I agree, barefoot is best for the proper development of the foot and muscles. When DS was outside he wore Stride Rite step 2 shoes with soft soles. The mimic walking barefoot, so the foot can still connect with the ground in a natural manner. Hard soles are not good for new walkers.

Even now at almost 2, DS is barefoot or in socks only the majority of the time. Over the summer if we were home and outside DS was barefoot.

Re: starting to walk and shoes

Ped said no shoes at all until she was full on walking- not cruising, not taking a step, full time walking as her main mode of transportation.
When that happened we went to Stride Rite to be fitted and they recommended the proper shoe for her age

I got my DS shoes when he started walking full-time. Like the pp's said, he only wears them outside. He's barefoot or in socks when he's indoors.

Barefoot at home. When we were outside I would put those super soft sole slipper shoes on her, DD's had puppy dogs on them. SO cute!
