If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
I found out today that I am having a miscarriage -this is my third. For my first two I opted for a D&C in the hospital but I am on the fence as to what to do this time.
The OB said I have four choices:
1) I can wait for nature to take its course but it could take weeks 2) I can take some tablets which will speed up the natural process 3) I can have a D&C at the office as its an early pregnancy 4) I can have a D&C at the hospital
I have had two d&c's before at the hospital - the second one I had a harder time recovering from but I think that was because I was further along.
I dont know why I am reluctant to have another one at the hospital...I know its probably the safest option but the fact that I could have it done at the office is more appealing to me - I will be awake for the procedure though which is a downside.
Or I have the pills which I could decide to take.
Sorry for rambling...the last two times it was suggested I go to the hospital for a D&C and this time they are leaving it up to me.
Thanks

I was 7 weeks 4 days along and I chose to naturally miscarry. I too was told it could take weeks. It ended up only taking 2 days. I ended up pregnant again just 9 days later. I am sorry for your loss

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
Thank you both and I am so sorry for your losses. When I had my first appointment I was supposed to be 7 weeks but I was only measuring at 5 weeks 6 days and then today at my appointment there was no change so I guess I could say I miscarried under 6 weeks.
I wish my body would just take care of it but the other part of me cannot bear the thought of not knowing how long it will take and the process goes on and on.

For me, I would have the D&C in the hospital. I have had 3 D&Cs and I could not imagine having that done awake. I also the waiting for it to happen and the actual "happening" would be too much to bear. I'm so sorry for your loss

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
I had two miscarriages. One I had a DnC at the hospital and the other one happened naturally on its own. I really dont know which was worse...probably naturally. That was probably harder on me physically than the dnc. They didn't mention doing it at the doctor's office.
I think for me, I'd rather get the dnc at the hospital. It's a very personal decision though.
Im so sorry for your loss.

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
I'm so sorry!
I had a missed MC at 9w and my OB recommended that I have a D&C in the hospital (didn't have the option to have it in the office). Unfortunately, the D&C was incomplete and I landed in the ER. I left with a script for Cytotec to pass the rest at home. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. The pain of passing it with meds was horrendous, so I couldn't image completely miscarrying naturally.
Based on my experience, I would opt to have a D&C in the hospital because there's no way I'd want to be awake for that. Also, you could wait weeks to miscarry naturally and it will be torture.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I am sorry for your loss.
When I had mine I opted for the pills. I don't remember any physical pain. I was 7 weeks along.

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
I miscarried at around 8 weeks. My OB told me to schedule a D&C but I felt afraid of it for some reason. When it started to happen naturally, I was not ready for that pain. I made an emergency appointment with my OB and he sent me to the ER. The ER was a madhouse that day, I was there for hours. While I waited, it passed. They did a sono and made sure it had ALL passed, otherwise they told me they would have to do the D&C anyway if there was anything left in there.
If I had it to do over again, I would've had the D&C. Having contractions with no medication and losing the baby after all that was awful and I feel like it was even more devastating. And knowing that there was a chance I'd have to have had the procedure anyway...from my personal experience, I would say you should do the D&C. If you feel more comfortable having them do it at their office, do that - I know it's not pleasant knowing they can't knock you out but it might feel better if you're not groggy afterward and you'll probably have less anxiety just knowing you won't have to go to the hospital.
I'm SO sorry for your loss. Good luck with your decision.

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
I have had four miscarriages, one of which I miscarried naturally, the other I had a D&C for. The third was a chemical and fourth ectopic .I agree with what the others have said, I had a better experience having the D&C (I was 10 weeks) in the hospital vs. having a natural miscarriage, but of course it is a personal decision.
I am so very sorry for your loss

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
I had a missed Mc at 11weeks , they gave me an option of natural or D&C and I decided on DC . I just couldn't walk around not knowing when nature was going to take it's course, plus they told me even if I did natural most likely I would still end up getting a DC if it didn't all come out , since I was a bit farther along... I had a D&C at the hospital. Oh and I was out the whole time, woke up and it was all done. I could never be awake for it. i didn't want to see anything, hear anhthing, feel anything . I'm very sorry for your loss

First off, I'm so sorry that you are going thru this
I had a mc a little after 12 weeks. I guess because I was so far along I didn't have a choice and had the D&C in the hospital. However, even if I did have a choice, I would have opted for the same. It was a horrible experience and the thought of being awake for any part of it wouldn't have been an option for me. Also, I don't know that I would have been able to wait for nature to take it's course. IMO, that's a slow torture.

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
I had natural first, switched drs had a dnc second.....
honeslty when the dr did the dnc he said there was alot of tissue. always wondered if the first dr didn't properly monitor the first one since I just got blood drawn 3 days later and told the numbers had dropped(yet not down to 0). I think the first one was also more scarring to see it come out.

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
Have a DNC.
I had 2 natural m/c's. I was about 6 wks when the first one happened. It was like having a heavy period for a week. So emotionally it was hard, but physically it wasn't so bad.
My 2nd miscarriage was not easy. I went in for my 8 wk appt and sono and the baby was measuring behind. (We saw a flicker of a heart beat.) We follow with a repeat sono and repeated blood work. My numbers were decreasing. The Dr said I could do it naturally or schedule a DNC. I was leaning toward doing it naturally since the first time wasn't that bad.
I was at work the next day and I started miscarring while I was there. I went home and was in pain for about 8 hours. I thought I was done. But I wasn't. For the next 3 days, I experienced painful contractions every 13 hours. (I couldn't even stand up when I was having them. I sat on the toilet. The Dr said I could take motrin. It did NOTHING and it was a higher dose.) I was wiped out after. I also bled for 2-1/2 months following it.

If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
I miscarried naturally 2 times, the first time it was like a very bad period cramping and bleeding - I was very early on. The 2nd time, I thought I was 9 weeks but empy sac measuring only 5w3d when I went for a sono, I began bleeding within 2 days and the pain was excruciating and the bleeding was very very heavy. I was very close to going to the ER when I passed the tissue.
If you can handle the pain, then naturally is a good way to go. I must say this....After having my son and going through labor and contractions, it was worse going through the miscarriage (painwise). I prob would have had a D&C if I had any idea of what it would be like.
I'm sorry you are going through this.

I had a D+C at the hospital. I just wanted to get it over with. I wanted to be knocked out. I got to the hospital at 7 and was home by 10.

Re: If you have had a miscarriage can you please come in.
First of all I am so that so many of us have gone through this - its so unfair and so cruel.
I really appreciate you all sharing your stories and experiences with me.
I have decided to have a d&c at the hospital and am calling now to schedule it. I cannot go on thinking "am I still pregnant or not"..I know I am not but there is still something inside of me.
I feel so sad and in such an awful place right now but I have to go on as I have two gorgeous happy kids and they deserve a strong happy mom and thats what I will be no matter what is going on inside.
You have no idea how much you have helped me so thank you all

When I went throught it my body did not take care of it on its own. I decided to take the pills. If you decide to take the pills just make sure they give you a strong painkiller like vicodin or percoset because I didn't and it was awful!!!!
