Mother's Day Out?
Has anyone ever heard of this concept? The way it's been explained to me is basically daycare/nursery school one or more times a week in a church that's relatively cheap. Geared towards stay at home moms that don't need permanent daycare and just need a few hours here and there to get stuff done alone. It's usually only for a few hours and some of the places let you just drop them off whatever days you want and you pay a set price for the year or pay per hour/day.
My in-laws and extended family live in TX and they are shocked that we don't have something like this. So shocked that my MIL didn't believe me and did the research herself  . I just wanted to make sure I wasn't brushing her off and that this really isn't something we have up here.

I haven't seen it around here but they have it where my friend lives on NJ.

Mother's Day Out?
I grew up in IL and my mom would put me in places like this. They are drop in daycares. Not sure of there are any around here though.

My step mom/dad live in Oklahoma and they have that , used it with my brother's years ago ~ I don't think we have it here ~ It would be nice.

I always think about this bc in the movie One Fine Day which takes place in Manhattan they drop their kids off at this type of place.
There are play places though on li that do drop off.

I would love something like this around here. It would be useful for when I have an appt. and there is no one available to watch DS.

I worked in one in Colorado. It was a great idea. We had all day kids as well as drop in kids.

I've been trying to figure out why it seems so popular elsewhere? The only reason I could think of is maybe we have a smaller percentage of SAHM than other locations?

I'm just guessing, but Long Island is very family rooted. So maybe it's because there are more relatives nearby to "help out" for an hour or two when needed?
I know plenty of parents who don't have family near-by, so I know that's not the case for everyone.
But a lot of younger families are staying on Long Island because their relatives are here, and not for the job opportunities or the cheaper cost of living!
