How does your toddler get up and down from their "big" bed?

We're going to be transitioning DD (who is 17 mo) to a twin bed and new bedroom soon. I know at least some of the Pottery Barn beds can be lowered for smaller kids but some other brands we've looked at don't have this option. When we look at the beds in person they look SO high compared to her.

How does your toddler get in and out of their bed if it's not very low to the ground? I'm worried about her falling out and getting hurt. Of course we'll have a rail for when she's sleeping but I'm thinking she'll fall trying to get down once she wakes up.

I didn't put a bed frame on my daughters bed... I have the box-spring on the ground and the mattress on top of that. Now that shes almost 3 I might put bed frame together but I was really nervous about this too and I figured it would ease the pain if she did ever fall out. Of course she never did hahaha lol But I also have her in a Queen size bed. Chat Icon

I think you are probably worrying more than you need to and it will probably be fine. I would just show DD how to get out of the bed.

We worried (our parents worried) about this step down we have from our kitchen to playroom. Everyone swore up and down that DS was going to fall down it. From e time he started to crawl we showed him how to roll onto his belly and slide down and he has never gotten hurt. The same for our basement stairs.

Show her ow to scoot to the opening and onto her belly and slide down.

DD is 2. She scoots to the side, and kind of slides down.

we bought a small stool at ikea. DS steps on it and then climbs up the rest of the way.
for getting down he either walks on all fours across the bed or stands up and walks by the wall to the edge and then sits down on the edge and lowers himself off until his feet touch the ground (same as adults do when their beds are high)

How does your toddler get up and down from their

step stool and a bed rail.

DD was in a twin at 8 months old and we only had a mattress and a rail... at a year we stepped it up to box spring and mattress and rail and at 18 months it went onto the frame. she used and still uses a step stool (she is 3 now)

DS is 17 months and has been able to climb up and get down from a really tall twin bed for months with no problem.

My DD is just like this. We were at my sister's house and she really amazed me with the bed in the guest room! Kids are crazy! I think they figure things out, in my case especially things they're not supposed to do!

Our crib coverted to a full size bed that is very high up. DS is 3.5 and still needs a step stool, especially to get onto the bed.

I have a kids step stool from Target at the foot of the bed for him to get on the bed. He doesn't have any problems sliding down off the bed feet first.
