True love doesn't end with happily ever after...

If you started to run after becoming a mom,

can you give me some inspiration! I have been wanting to start for awhile now...so many people I know run, and absolutely LOVE it. I am not into excercising at all...haha, but I want to!

If you started to run after becoming a mom,

I just started running. I don't love it, but I make myself do it. I do enjoy the "me time" aspect of it and the routine. I started running outside, but I just joined a gym, because I can only run at night during the week and it's getting dark too early. Hopefully you'll like it more than I do.

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

I started before my kids but running is the easiest form of exercise with kids! Just throw them in the stroller and go!

I can no longer run bc of a back injury (not from running) but I LOVE it. It is amazing how you can start off running very short distances and within a relatively short period of time increase it!

I fell like it is the best bang for your buck exercise wise.

Good luck!

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

If you have never ran before, I would suggest popping your baby in a jogging stroller (I personally love the city mini but there are a bunch of great ones out there) and just start around your neighborhood. You can alternate between jogging and walking and build up your stamina for longer and longer periods of jogging until you can jog the whole time. Babies love it because they are outdoors and can check everything out, and sometimes will even nap! Good luck and enjoy!

The City Mini isn't actually a jogging stroller. My friend actually got very hurt when the front wheel got caught up in a roadway crack. She called the company to complain and was told this stroller was not suitable for jogging.
Be careful!!

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

I used to run regularly while in college & grad school. I agree that it is the best "bang for your buck" exercise wise... I have just recently started to get back into running and working out, now that my "baby" is turning 2 Chat Icon. For me, I get addicted to seeing the progress I am making (running 1 mile this week, and 1.25 the next), and I also love the feeling of accomplishment AFTER I am done. It is also one of the only times during the day that I listen to music, so I enjoy that aspect as well.

Happy running! :)

Couch to 5k is a great app for the iPhone to get started.

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

I started running after my first was born and I love it. I did couch to 5k and ran a few 5ks before moving on to longer distances. I've run three half marathons and I'm training for a full marathon in October.

I love running. It's easy to get started, even if you have to alternate running and walking. Your endurance will improve really quickly. And I love that I'm being a good role model for my kids by being active.

Good luck!

That's great that you want to!!! Just start small & build yourself up! No one just started running a marathon n day 1!
Figure out what fits into your schedule (with or w/out you LO), & try to set a routine (with flexibility Chat Icon )

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

oh i hate running! Chat Icon But i needed to do it and i've been running for 3 months now. I try to go as much as i can, but our schedule doesn't always allow for it.

I really like it. I s*ck at it, but i really like it.

I get 30 minutes of peace. 30 minutes (or more depending on time and how much i run) of not having to think about anything but what's playing on my ipod. I get to clear my head.

Not think about what to pack up for tomorrow, where the kids are going, what our plans are for the next few days, etc etc. It's just me, the road, and my ipod. Chat Icon

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

I started running beforei got pregnant with Ds. did one 5k, and signed up for a half and found out i was pregnant. I had to stop. I cant wait to get back itno it. Couch to 5k is an amazing program. Robert Ullrey has a free podcast for all the weeks that he put to music and tells you when to start and stop runs. It is awesome and easy to follow. That is how i started and as soon as i can and am sleeping a bit better, i will start up again> have a 5k scheduled for october. It is a great time to be free, adn into music and helps to clear my head. Cant wait to get back into it, and get ds into a jogging stroller. (hes too young)

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

i complain that i hate to run but in reality it is the ONE thing that keeps me sane and keeps me "ME" Chat Icon i missed it terribly when i was pregnant back to back and swore i'd get back to it and run a marathon (i had run 4 prior to kids) but training for one with 2 little ones proved to be harder than i thought....but i did it.
anyway since then i have completed 2 marathons and run as regularly as i can to keep my mood balanced. i truly believe running helped be kick the PPD that i had after giving birth.
i hope to run for the rest of my life Chat Icon

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

I'd try the couch to 5k program. I ran at times before becoming a mom, but I didn't exercise much after becoming a mom. I started running again with the couch to 5k program when DS was 18 months old. I ran a few 5k races after that and then started running even more.

Re: If you started to run after becoming a mom,

I started. I used the couch to 5k and booked a race, paid for it, that was scheduled right at the end of the program. That way I couldn't back out. I put DS in the jogging stroller and did it. He didn't mind and it was only 30 mins.

Then I got sick and wasn't able to run.. like a week after the race. I am able to run now but, I haven't been able to get off my arse and do it!!

Just start running. You can do it!
