small update (unless I get wordy to the point of a long update)

So.... yeaaaa don't even know where to begin.

First of all, I LOVE my surrogate. She's amazing. I know I've said that on here A TON but it's hard to not just reiterate that every time I think of this woman because she's just that fantastic.

Now for the update... I was really nervous for her first monitoring appt last week. My lining always stunk, and it was always the appointment where Dr.B would tell me we may not be able to transfer. The idea of her going and getting GOOD news just seemed surreal. I was nervous- all while hoping I was just being irrational .. and well... crazy. On the evening of her appointment day, I get a text that her lining was not thick enough. Actually, it was REALLY thin. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I tried not to get TOO MUCH in a panic over it because Dr.B didn't seem all that concerned (yet). The office called her up and said to take estrace vaginally and come in for her next monitoring appt in a few days.

She texted me to say she was on suppositories. I thought nothing of it... until LATE Saturday night. Suddenly it dawned on me like no other and I was like.. WHAT SUPPOSITORIES??!?! .. I texted her but didn't hear back till the next morning. There was unfortunately a big misunderstanding and instead of taking estrace vaginally, she took E2V instead, which have progesterone. I freaked out.... and even had my dh call Dr.B on his cell phone. He gave us his number for emergencies YEARS AGO .. In my state of panic, this seemed like quite an emergency.

At the next sono, her lining was still very thin. Between her thin lining AND the mess-up with taking the wrong drugs, Dr.B decided to scrap the cycle and start over with a different protocol.

At first, I was feeling VERY negative about it ... but I did my "research" ... hounded Dr.B for stats, and spoke to my agency as well. It seems lining issues are pretty common and usually (though not always) it clears up the next time using a different protocol.

Right now I'm just optimistically hoping for a better outcome next time. I was afraid of getting too close to my surrogate, but I can't allow myself to be that way. She's great... she's vacationing in LI .. and I am going in with the assumption that this WILL work and have been spending time with her and finding more reasons to love her Chat Icon Chat Icon In fact, we are having dinner tonight with our husbands too.

This journey has been brought to us by the letter "S" and the word "setbacks" ... why should this time be any different? Hopefully next cycle will be it. Chat Icon

Re: small update (unless I get wordy to the point of a long update)

Well, you certainly don't want to go forward. That is the fear with a newbie, is that she wont know what to do. Honestly, I'm on my #$#$ cycle and I study my protocol 5 times a day cause I'm afraid I'll grab the wrong thing. Imagine just starting out. She must have felt so horrible for messing up the cycle further. I don't see anything wrong with getting to know your surrogate. She's going to be carrying your DC, you want to be as close to her as possible at this point and for the next 10 months. Luckily all you lost is time (I know I know...time but its only time and time is actually the only thing here that is free). It will all work out. Just sometimes not as easy as you think it should be. And I ask...WHY CAN'T IT JUST BE EASY?????

Well you know we are all by your side!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Glad to hear that all is not lost......just a setback. That's not to say that setbacks don't feel like it's all over, but it does mean you have something very real to look forward to. Good luck on your next cycle.

Wow....you are being so brave right now. I am so inawe of how you have pulled yourself up out of this unfortunate situation and now have a new outlook and positivity that the next cycle and protocol will work.

I am so happy that Dr. B and your research tell you this may be common and their is a fix for it.

I am so happy for you and hope next go round is nothing but smooooth sailing! Chat Icon

Re: small update (unless I get wordy to the point of a long update)

Thanks ladies, I'm really looking forward to getting this all started up again! According to my agency, this is the most common reason for a cycle to get canceled! They told me that this is a main reason offices like to do mock transfers, although many places don't do those anymore which leads to cycles being canceled. She said we were her 2nd people this week who needed to cancel a cycle for the SAME reason! (reason being ... a thin lining ... not the drug mess-up!!)

Hopefully now that we have some knowledge as to how she reacts to the drugs, we could have a smooth cycle next time around. I always say Dr.B is my hero....... now he has to live up to that status and actually get me my baby!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

She hasn't done surrogacy before, but she has had a healthy pregnancy, etc before.... With people who have no risk factors it's USUALLY ok... so hopefully the next go is all we need!!

Ahhh I wish I was really as confident as I sound. In reality, I'm taking it day by day but still scared shitless of this not working!!

i'm happy to hear that it was something like that , the setback, and not something worse, especially if it is as common as all that.
I'll continue to keep you all in my prayers!
