I have 2 friends who did not successfully BF their 1st, but went on to BF their 2nd child. They said it was easier because you didn't experience the life shock you did when you had #1...at that point everything was new territory but with the second you knew what to expect so you were calmer. You anticipate it will be difficult but have a clearer head to work through it. Good luck!!

I have a friend who DS1 did not latch and DS2 latched right on and they are going strong for almost 3 months. It is definitely doable if you want to do it!

would love to hear success stories about Breastfeeding
with my first BFing didn't work. My dd went straight to the NICU after birth. No one ever asked me if i wanted to pump for her. A few days later when i was able to feed her she would not latch. I was frustrated and overwhelmed. so she was bottlefed.
i was determined to BF # 2.
Now my dd 2 is 21 months and we are still nursing!
:) :) Good LucK!!

Re: would love to hear success stories about Breastfeeding
Never tried with baby #1, baby #2 wouldn't latch and I gave up pumping at 3 months. baby#3 would only latch while sleeping so I nursed her until 8 months at night and pumped during the day. Baby #4 is still nursing at 16.5 months old and he never took a bottle

Re: would love to hear success stories about Breastfeeding
Hated it with DS1. Tried and cried. I had a bad experience with his birth. It was a crash c section so recovery was tough and adding breastfeeding didn't help. I just tried for about 3 weeks, had no clue what I was doing and pretty much did formula with trying BF every once in a while just b.c. I hated it b.c it hurt and just didn't like it. Also, the lac specialist at the hospital stopped in for 5 mins after several requests and was no help. The hospital really pushed formula too. Second DS was much better. I had a sched c section and the hospital was so much better with helping breastfeeding (different hospital b.c we moved to nj). The lactation specialist was awesome. She came and stayed with me for a while showing me and making sure I was comfortable, giving advise, etc. I kept to it for about 4 months and started supplementing formula around a month. He still mainly got BM though. If I didn't have to go back to work I would've still done it. There wa a time I was gonn give up. It was painful, but once I got passed this I loved it and I never thought I would sy that.

Re: would love to hear success stories about Breastfeeding
My older son was tongue tied and I struggled to bf him for months and months, and wound up pumping for a long time, I hated every minute of it and it really made the first year of my sons like a tough time for me. But then, my daughter was born and she latched on right from birth, and she was an amazing breast feeder and holy crap, it made the first year of her life so easy and enjoyable! I bf her until she was 23 months old, and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Where are you located? Find a class/group of other BFing moms. It's always great to have other moms that know exactly what you're going through and can talk you through the rough spots (esp in the beginning).
