Back Packs for Preschoolers
DS is 2 years and 8 months old - though looks like he is almost 4 - a big boy and we will be taking him to pick out a backpack for pre school. I am looking for the smaller ones - not regular ones that junior high and high school kids carry. Where else besides Buy Buy Baby and Toys R Us can I look in person? The ones in Buy Buy Baby are too small to hold and 8.5 x 11 notebook and did not see any designs/characters in the Toys R Us ad that think he would like.

Target
This is where I bought my son's backpack. He's 3. He picked out a Hotwheels one.

Another vote for Target. We bought ds a nice & small Lightning McQueen race car backpack there that he loves.

My sons preschool as well. I was able to find a nice sized one at Kohls last year for him (he'll use it again this year) that is big enough to hold his artwork and such (part of the reason they want it bigger, since the smaller ones everything gets smushed in), but not as big as a full size school bag.
Try Kohls

Re: Back Packs for Preschoolers
We got ours from the Disney store online. Idk how big they are but they were super cheap and I got his name on it.
