Spinoff: who those who FF from the start

Crashing here. I've been reading the crazy, drama BF thread and it left me with a question. For those ladies who choose to FF from the very beginning what was your reason? Not asking to start drama or with any judgement. As someone who is about to TTC, I am just truly curious.

Re: Spinoff: who those who FF from the start

I just never had a desire to BF. Ever.

It wasn't even a thought in my mind- it wasn't "well maybe". It wasn't "I'll try it for a bit" It wasn't "once the baby is here I might want to" It was just never an option.

I feel like I have never felt so strongly or so certain about anything in my life.
The thought of it just made me 100% uncomfortable to the point where I knew I could never even attempt it.

And with formulas being what they are today, I never had ounce of guilt about it. I knew my DD would be just fine. I was FF and I was just fine- very healthy in fact.
And she is too- rarey sick even though she is daycare, etc etc

Spinoff: who those who FF from the start

For me it was a lack of options. DS was born 12 weeks early and was transferred to another hospital after birth. I did not see him for 12 hrs. He was being fed with a feeding tube and formula. I tried at that point to pump and did religiously for 2 months but it really was pointless. I never had much of a supply. I could pump all day and still not have enough for 1 feeding. Once he was off the tube I tried to BF but there just wa no supply. I pumped for a few more weeks but eventually stopped.

I tried BF but was never commited and when DS didn't take I never really tried much more. I will probably FF #2 right from the beginning. My reasons (and only mine). I see no cons to formula. I don't find BM or fomula better than the other. I was FF and have no medical issues - allergies, hardly get colds etc.

I was also going back to work at 8 weeks and was not going to be tied to a pump.

I did not want to be the one to feed DS all the time, yes you can pump but once again I was not going to be tied to a pump.

I feel that to sucessfully BF (cause it is not easy) you have to be committed and I just wasn't.

ONCE AGAIN JUST MY REASONS.

I don't have any strong opinions for or against either and do not care what others so. This was just what I wanted for me and my family.

I bf and ff fed from the beginning. I had a lot of complications after my csec so I allowed her to have formula in the nursery. DD had latch issues, weight loss of almost a pound and I had a very low supply do at 3 weeks I went to formula only. I still feel horrible about not bf longer, allowing her tO have formula even though she is thriving.

Re: Spinoff: who those who FF from the start

My reasons are similar to PP. Son was transferred to another hospital. He was in NICU for a while, I could not hold him, much less feed him. Hospital started him with formula, and mentally at the time for me, it was the easiest to know exactly what he was getting..so I stuck with it.

6 months of exclusive pumping with my 1st child. It sucked. After that experience, I did not even want to ATTEMPT bfing with my 2nd child.

And she was.

This....point for point....word for word.

My 13 year old did just fine, and you would never know she was ff.

My DS was born 7 weeks early. He was in NICU for 10 days. Besides having no desire to breast feed again, the NICU nurses told me that they would have to supplement anyway for the extra calories. They didn't push the issue. DS is now almost 22 months, he is in the 65% for height and weight. He caught up weight wise by his 2 month appointment and height wide by 6 months. He has had 2 colds and strep throat once (the whole house had it though) things could have been worse because I have a middle schooler, so germ wise he could have been sick a lot more. He has been within range for ALL of his fine motor and gross motor skills, and is so far on level for his speech skills too.

I'm due in January with #3 and again, will exclusively FF. I have no regrets and really don't care what others think!!!

Re: Spinoff: who those who FF from the start

DD I tried, and tried hard. It was an extremely traumatic experience for me. I HATED having her attached to me 24/7. We were both MUCH happier when I stopped. It also brought on the onset of postpartum depression for me.

DS I made the decision before even getting pregnant that I would not even attempt it. My mental health was more important to me. As it was, I had a severe case of PPD after he was born. If I had been BFing, I would have quit anyway once the PPD reared it's ugly head when he was 3 weeks old.

Also want to add, I now can say openly that I never wanted to without lying to people who kept asking me are you going to are you are you?
I used to say I don't know maybe..we will see. I hated lying because I was going to feed him no matter what with love and I have bonded with that baby 100%.

I tried with DS but it was frustrating for me and for him. With DD and with this baby (due feb) I don't really have a choice because medically I am not able to. If I did have a choice, I think that I would still FF.

I tried to bf with DD and it lasted for about 2 weeks. I never made enough and she wasn't all that interested, so I was not going to push it.

Not once did I ever feel guilty about ff - it's a choice that I made and DD has been fine. She rarely gets sick and is perfectly healthy and happy. I don't see what the big deal is.

Re: Spinoff: who those who FF from the start

No desire to do it unless I was totally convinced it was worth all the time, effort, energy, stress, wear and tear on my boobs. And I was not convinced it was worth all these things. I felt the negatives outweighed the positives.

Oh and a big reason was I felt confined enough having to watch what I ate and drank during pregnancy...and I could not see doing that any longer once DD was born. That was a big one I forgot to add. I wanted freedom from worrying about what I was consuming, b/c I was very careful during pregnancy and would have been equally careful if I had BF.

The nurse told me I was smothering my baby with my boob-so I told her to go get me formula. It wound up being the best decision for us!

wanting DH to be able to be able to feed/bond with the baby

fearing pumping at work

not wanting to deal with pumping or being a slave to BFing every 2 hours

it just wasnt for me.

I always said I wanted to "try" breastfeeding but I never had a strong desire to do it. so I did for my hospital stay and it was tough! DD was having trouble latching and it was very upsetting for me. So I started giving her formula as soon as we got home from the hospital.
