I would guess that this is in lieu of a shower- or at least I would hope! People are delusional to think that enough people to fill a catering hall give a crap whether their kid is a boy or girl.

I love when someone writes EXACTLY what i'm thinking!!! lol!!

People are nuts.

that's so sad to
me. That mentality.

Maybebaby- we all had to hear about your husband deployed and strangers here gave u supprt and listened to you. Every post you updated, people cared. People who don't even know you. Were we delusional? Why should we have cared then, kwim?

Total apples to oranges imo.

Seriously??? You are comparing about me posting about my husbands deployment (and wording it "we all had to hear about it" which didn't sound very nice") to a VERY GENERAL post about a gender reveal party in a catering hall???

Oh my god. All i said was that I agreed with lynn and that people are nuts.

MEANING.....I think its a little nutty to host a huge party in a hall for just a gender reveal. If its combined with a shower, great! And if someone does a cake at their home, cool! I just think a party at a hall specifically for that is a bit overboard.

And it would have been WAYYY different if it was someone on LIF posting about the fact she was throwing it and I comment with "you're nuts". THAT would be nasty. I replied a very general statement.

I have nothing but hugs, advice (TONS of advice offered) etc for so many women on these boards constantly. Geez!!

And I was EXTREMELY thankful for the nice words while DH was in afghanistan. It wasn't easy. The people that wanted to send advice and hugs did. Those that didn't didn't have to read my posts or offer sympathy which is fine. It was a very very hard time in my life and i was grateful for the support. I don't think i bothered anyone or put anyone out with my posts. At least i hope not.

Some people just sound so miserable.

I'd get a gift of course. But if people are doubting them hosting such an event and think its silly, then you're probably not a good friend anyway and should stay away.

It's free food and a joyful occasion. Geez Louise!

MY mentality about things like these are that they get out of hand....its not that a baby isn't a wonderful thing. It is. But when you host a party, a gift should be given.

A baby shower AND a big gender reveal seems kind of a lot. But that is just me. I've never been invited to a huge one, I would think its not the norm.

Just because people think something is overboard doesn't mean they still aren't good friends or caring. I love my friends and care about them very much. I've supported everything in their lives. But its human to sometimes think "things are getting a bit crazy". I'm sure they've thought things about me along the way that maybe aren't what THEY would do but it doesn't mean we don't love one another.

You ladies are so pathetic. It's a party. Go and have fun.

Let me guess: those of you who are complaining about this and that, if you didn't get an invite to such a party, you'd be complaining about that, too. Admit it.

So someone wants to do something different than the norm, throw a different kind of party and everyone here is getting hot and bothered and their panties in a bunch. My goodness gracious. This is frustrating to read!!!

Life is short.
Smile.
Have fun.

Jeez!!!

You needed a fake name to say THAT?

Anyway, I just farted and we're having a party for it. I need your address to send the pocketfold Chat Icon

Gender Reveal Party

I dont see a difference between having two parties for one baby (baby shower/ gender reveal) than all the parties people have for a wedding (engagement party/bridal shower/ wedding etc) where in all occasion a gift is expected. Why be soo feed up when is for a baby and not for all the ones for a couple that decide to get married???

Re: Gender Reveal Party

Do they have money????

I ask bc maybe they r not having a shower and just wanted a big party to celebrate

Idk..if people r happy celebrating then why not,I think of it as free food lol

One of my good friends did not want a shower so she didn't and when the baby was 8 weeks old they had a party to meet the baby in their house

Some brought gifts some didn't. She didn't care either way

Have u checked for a registry online?

Re: Gender Reveal Party

To each their own. We are jumping through HOOPS to have our baby ... and are currently in the process of surrogacy. I don't plan on coming out to lots of people until around 20wks (given my history- had a loss last time in the 17th week) and I plan on announcing the gender at that point. Will I make a gender reveal party? Technically no... not planning on it. I plan on telling everyone when we're all together for the holidays, which is when I HOPE to be around 20wks. I will be having a shower though. I think doing a gender reveal in a hall is a bit over the top if they plan on having a shower too. If it's in place of a shower, I can understand it a little more!

Don't sweat the small stuff. If I had the money, I'd go. If I didn't, I'd send a card and then get her something nice when the baby was born.

Wow, that's a little over the top for a gender reveal. I'd probably decline the invite...

Why would you decline?? What if its the shower as well?
I say go and have fun!

If it were in lieu of the shower, or for immediate family would go, but it doesn't seem like any registry info was included so to me that implies it's not a shower. Gender reveal parties and engagement parties are really just not my thing in general, so I'd be a bit put off if I got an invite to one at a big hall like that. It's just my own opinion about it...

Re: Gender Reveal Party

that seems a bit much.
I am actually having a gender party this weekend, at our home with only our family and my bff. I would never think to host it anywhere else with tons of people, especially a hall, unless it was in place of a shower.

digweed&sarah-thank you! I know the reply was nonsense and not even remotely comparable, but it did upset me. And maybe her words were worded incorrectly but to say "We all had to hear about your DH being deployed" or whatever she wrote...really?? So childish. And i didn't even get a reply back. Oh well.

I realize that I'm not answering your original question here buttttt.....as somone who did in fact "jump through hoops" and went through A LOT to have a baby, a gender reveal party invite would get a big ol' Chat Icon from me and I would mostly likely decline the invite. So overbaord IMHO.

ETA: most people have a baby shower (and get gifts)...then once the baby is born people visit in the hospital (and again they bring gifts). A gender reveal party just seems like too much to me. UNLESS it is being done IN LIEU of one of these things (ie the shower)
