When to start pumping
DD is 8 days old and is breast feeding like a champ. I wanted to start pumping to build a freezer supply for when I have to go back to work. I can't remember from DS when I can start pumping. Anyone know how long I should wait to start pumping? Thanks!

When to start pumping
I believe it is recommended to start 2 or 3 weeks before you are planning on going back to work. I also think it's best to start off slow so that you don't get too much of an oversupply.

When to start pumping
The lactation consultant told me when the baby turned 1 month. Make sure you pump around the same time each day, that helped the most for me.

Re: When to start pumping
I went back when DS was 13 weeks and didn't start till he was probably 8 weeks. I never really built up a supply. The lc advised me before you build a huge freezer supply, freeze some and then thaw and give to baby. Some people's milk changes when frozen and baby may reject it. Though I always have frozen milk, I give DS what I pumped the day before so it's always fresh.

Re: When to start pumping
I started when DS was about 2 weeks old. I just pumped when I nursed in the morning. I had trouble pumping with my first LO and wanted to have a stash JIK.

Re: When to start pumping
I started about two weeks..did it after first morning feed..and tried to be consistent with that so I didn't mess with my supply the rest of the day..it worked out great and I got a great supply in my freezer...just make ure you don't miss a feeding for at least the first 6-8 weeks..so if you give a bottle def pump...

Re: When to start pumping
Thanks everyone! I think I will wait another week or so and start.
