DH refuses to go back to Dutch Wonderland

I dragged him borderline kicking and screaming 2 years ago. Last year he got out of it. He keeps making excuses not to go this summer!

Anyone else's DH anti-theme park?

It was pulling teeth getting him to go to Disney World 2 months ago. He ran out of excuses and he gave in because I was furious that he blew off our Great Wolf trip.

Re: DH refuses to go back to Dutch Wonderland

I'd be upset too. DH is quite the opposite, he loves watching DS experience new things and one of those things was Dutch Wonderland. DH had a blast seeing DS so happy. We'll be going back soon actually. We're also planning a Disney/Legoland trip for early next year.

I personally wouldn't "let" him get out of it. As a parent sometimes you have to su*k it up and do things for you child.

Its the oppiste with us. DH begs to go to all the parks and i hate them. I go for the kids(and the biggest kid DH). I know they love it so i go. At the end of the day it makes me happy to see them have so much fun so that makes it worth it.

Once we actually get there, we all have a good time. It's getting DH to go that is the problem.

DH refuses to go back to Dutch Wonderland

I am the one who's anti theme park. I never was a park person and never will be. That said, i live 2 hrs from Orlando and loathe going, lol! I only go if our friends/family are in the area and we (I) reluctantly drive up to meet them. Just was at magic kingdom 2 wk ago and it was the longest day of my life. Park was at capacity, it was 97 degrees. Parks are just not my idea of time away. I told DH he can take DD next time lol! Im clearly missing the theme park gene.

I'm kind of anti-theme park. Keep in mind my DD is only 14 months, but I don't see the appeal at all. Well, I guess I see the appeal of Disney World, but not everything else. I'd rather go on vacation and see something new, swim in the ocean, see a new city, or go to an aquarium, zoo, kids museum, than a theme park. Lines, crowds, lots of hyper/over tired kids, expensive bad food, etc.

Wow, after I read that I realized I'm kinda a party pooper, haha. I'm sure I'm in for a rude awakening in a few years when that's all my kids want to do, but I do see your DH's point. Seems like sensory overload to me.

To be fair to DH, I am not a theme park person either so he didn't marry a theme park goer. Before we had kids, I never went to a theme after I was a teenager. I would prefer to spend my time elsewhere.

With that being said, our kids LOVE them. I love seeing their eyes light up.

Only when it comes to Sesame Place. DH heard bad things and refuses to see if rumors are true or not. He loved DW.

Re: DH refuses to go back to Dutch Wonderland

Parks are each different enough that there should be at least one that he is willing to go to. If not there has to be something family friendly that he will enjoy.

Re: DH refuses to go back to Dutch Wonderland

My DH isn't anti theme park, but didn't consider Disney a theme park. I pretty much forced him to go. Disney has been a part of my life since I was little. He's made it clear we are not going back for at least 5 years.....lol

I dunno, if he's going to put a damper on the trip I might consider going just you, the kids and maybe grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends with kids, etc who would enjoy it more. I know a family who goes to Disney without the Dad (they are happily married) just the Mom, kids and grandparents go. I don't know exactly why but I assume he's just not into it and everyone is ok with him not going. They take many other types of trips together as a family during the year so it's not like they don't all vacation together.

Re: DH refuses to go back to Dutch Wonderland

yeah, take a grandma who is into going. Or, leave DH at the hotel and take the kids for a while.

Re: DH refuses to go back to Dutch Wonderland

Maybe remind him it's not about him it's about the kids? That would royally piss me off

Re: DH refuses to go back to Dutch Wonderland

he needs to realize that it is no longer about him. If he keeps doing what he's doing one day he may look back and realize he missed out on alot of great family memories and once those opportunities are gone they are gone forever. You don't get a Do-Over. If he still refuses than I personally would leave him behind and go without him. Nobody will stop me from sharing those special moments with my kids, not even my husband. Their eyes light up & it means so much to the kids.
