Onsie under footie pajamas?

Having DD next week and currently washing new clothes. I am washing a swaddle me in case she prefers swaddling in the beginning and putting a onsie on underneath. What if she likes just being on cotton footie pj's, would you still put a onsie/bodysuit underneath if she sleeps in AC room at night kept at 67/68 degrees or just the cotton footie pj? I do not want to overheat her.

some people do though

you'll be able to tell if the baby is hot or cold enough though (don't go by the hands or feet which are always colder, you can tell by their neck and head temp)

Re: Onsie under footie pajamas?

I always put a onesie underneath. DD is 5 months old and to bed, she goes in a onesie, footie pj's, and a fleece sleepsack in the A/C of course...with my older DD she always wore a onesie underneath her pj's until she was too big to wear one! I guess I am just a onesie fan!

Onsie under footie pajamas?

We never put a onesie under the pajamas.

The swaddle me goes over the pajamas like a wearable blanket.

Chat Icon The tabs should be tight enough to do that.

I never put a onesie on under their clothes, I just made sure the house was warm enough. It's safer to keep the temp around 68/70 degrees for babies anyway, it reduces the risk of SIDS.

Re: Onsie under footie pajamas?

Huh. I always put a onesie under DS's pjs when he was a newborn cuz all his pjs then were zip up and i figure the zipper would be annoying on his skin. As he got bigger I put it on under his PJs in the winter as an added layer of warmth because he never kept his blanket on (when he outgrew the sleep sacks).

Re: Onsie under footie pajamas?

I put my DD in a gown at night to make for easier diaper changes, and then a swaddle me or a swaddle blanket over that. No onesie.

Re: Onsie under footie pajamas?

I have always done this - I would imagine the zipper inseam would not be comfortable for them - at least that is why I always put something underneath.

Almost never!!! and never for bed. I only ever did if we were going for a walk in the winter and my girls were little preemies.

You just made laugh! Chat Icon

I know the tabs keep in place but i feel the diaper is more secure, if that makes any sense. Maybe not Chat Icon

Re: Onsie under footie pajamas?

No onesie under pj's for us!

Just feetie pj's.

I had my DS last August, and one of the first nights he was home, I swaddled him in a fleece swaddle and he was SO perspired, I freaked that I was endangering him with a high body temp. Everything was fine, but I actually never used the fleece one again. Our house is always around 70 degrees, so there really wasn't ever a need for one. I LOVE the cotton Swaddle Me's, though! (but they shrink BIG TIME when you wash/dry them).

Now I feel bad that, at almost 11 months, he might be cold at night because he NEVER keeps his blanket on. He kicks it off IMMEDIATELY. SHOULD I now ADD a onesie underneath? lol. He SEEMS fine...

Good luck next week! So exciting!!! Chat Icon

Onsie under footie pajamas?

when the twins were born they were preemies, had no body fat, and it was cool in april so i put a onesie underneath to start. i stopped once it got warmer and they got bigger.
if you have a full erm sized baby and its the summer i dont think its necessary. the doctors always scared me about overheating the baby so i think pjs are sufficient

Re: Onsie under footie pajamas?

I was thinking about the original question and realized that in the summer I never put footie pjs anyway. it was always just the onesie and swaddle blanket. When it got cooler I put the pjs over the onesie. DS was born in July.

2 summer babies. Never put noises on under PJs. DS wore onsies and sleep gowns. DD was in onsies and miracle blanket.

Re: Onsie under footie pajamas?

onesie and the miracle blanket is the best way to go. Can't recommend the blanked enough!

I think I would put a new born in a onesie and cotton pjs, but if you are using a swaddle blanket, just the onesie, no pjs

I always put a onesie underneath the Pj's and then use the swaddle.
I felt the zipper or buttons would be irritating right on their skin.

I never put a onesie under, not even in the winter. just went with thicker ones or fleece if it was REALLY cold but never layers.
