DS will be 2 in 3 weeks and I just left him overnight for the first time. I left him with my parents. Before this time we were living with my parents and there was never a reason to leave him overnight. I'm lucky bc I completely trust my parents with DS and they are more than willing to take him.

"i" get a break from the kids 4-5 times a week for 30 minutes- I exercise. Dh gets a break from the kids by going to work

"We" - Dh and I have never had a break from the kids as we don't have family who live close by and to be honest we wouldn't trust anyone to take care of them - thats just the way we are...even if a friend offered we wouldn't take them up on it...the last time we had time alone as in no kids was in Jan 2006 !!!

Very rarely. My mil watches DS two afternoons a week when I'm working (mid-September-June) but now that I'm off she hasn't watched them since late May. Not once, not even for an hour. My mom used to watch DS two afternoons a week until my dad got sick in January. She's only done an hour here or there because that's all she can manage. If and when we get a break, we have to pay a babysitter. we recently spent $70 to watch Italy lose.

Eta- as for overnighters, we try to go away one weekend a year and I have o jump through hoops to make it happen and I usually have the kids one night at one house and a different house the next because no one will keep them the whole time. You would think they were the devils spawn.

As a couple we never get any time off, we went to the movies two weeks ago, but it was so expensive in the end we were so pissed off. On my own, I get Wednesdays off because my son is at school and my little daughter goes to daycare.

I never trusted my parents to watch ds......

IL's have watched ds so we could go to a movie(and maybe BJ's shopping trip with it).... I believe we started that in the first year...

A little over a year we took an overnight trip without ds to AC NJ and IL's had him... At 2 1/2 years IL's had him for an overnight cause we had a wake to go to in NJ, and since we'd be getting home late and getting up early for the funeral.......

We don't like to leave him overnight though cause we feel like he expects to wake up in his own house.......

We do not really have family nearby so it's usually just me and DD all day long until DH gets home from work. And then he takes over until bedtime. So I get my break then and it's awesome. Best system we have going.

I'm not ready for overnight yet. But my parents are 5 minutes away and my MIL has a rotating schedule so she always offers. DS takes a 3 hour nap so I get a pretty nice break most days.

Riley is 3.5 months old, and Emily is 6.5 years old.

Noone has ever taken Riley for a day or overnight.

Emily has slept over my Mom's house twice, and has also slept over my sisters and brother's houses a few times.

Very rare...I am home with my DS 6 days a week & on Sundays (DH is home with DS), I bartend at a steakhouse (I joke & say that's my break!)
It's by choice though; my DS is only almost 20 months old & I love being with him all the time! I love taking him everywhere with me! I am definitely not ready to leave him overnight.

My mom watches DS during the week for us. So I really only leave her with him on the weekends if my MIL isn't available to watch him.

My MIL watches DS a couple of Saturday nights a month for us, so we can go out for a few hours.

She prefers to watch him at our place, so he doesn't really sleep out. When he does it is usually at my moms or with my sister.

Again, I avoid asking my mom to watch DS during the weekends because she has him all week long. So weekends only happen if we are in a bind.

No one has their DH watch the kids for a few hours while you can go out and about??? I suggest this because I think it's so great.

Every so often, on the weekend and when we are both off, we let each other go out for a bit while the other watches DC.

I may go shopping and he likes to go get coffee and go to Best Buy. sometimes one of us picks to take a nap instead, and the other one takes the kids of the house. Then we all get together and do dinner and a movie as a family.

It's a nice way to get some time to yourself..and its free!

This may be worth a try if you don't have any outside help.

Pretty often -
I don't consider anyone going to work getting a 'break' .....

Sometimes I will take a Friday off and run around do what I need to do while the kids go to daycare .......

DH and I go out pretty often, either separately (and the other stays with the kids) or together and we get a sitter.

We don't do overnights too often, but it's definitely been done.

DS is 15m. DH and I get a date nite at least once a month, so I guess that would be our break. He has also stayed with my parents maybe 3 times overnight due to different reasons.

We also give each other a break by going out separately for a girls/guys nite out maybe every 1-2 months.

My parents take DD about once a month for an overnight visit. They have since she was about 3 months old. My mom asked if we'd allow it and I see no reason not to. they love spending time with her, she loves spending time with them. We try to plan it so that it's a night we'd need a sitter otherwise (like if we are invited to a party). Dh also gives ME a break once in a while. he takes DD to visit his dad in Long Island (we live in Queens). It's usually a saturday or Sunday morning and they come back around 1 or 2. I use the time to run errands or give the house a good deep clean.

i get breaks often. its very important. my mom comes for a weekend evening to watch them while DH and I go to dinner- she has been doing this since they were newborn. Then when they were 10 weeks my MIL took one baby and my mom took another and DH and I went to vegas. Maybe people think we are crazy to leave our twins, but it was important to reconnect as a couple and they were in excellent hands- i trust my mom and mil a ton with my babies. also on weekends dh and i take turns watching them so each of us can run errands. so i get a lot of breaks. its very important to do so.
