Re: Childbirth Class
Honestly there is a decent chance you will be induced with GD. And it can be a long process, so breathing, etc. will help you. Breathing techniques you can learn by watching a video. If you want to understand everything that's going on, take a class - or read a book, even.
Once I figured out my epi wasn't working properly, all breathing techniques went out the window and I just screamed my face off.

Re: Childbirth Class
If you want the drugs, just get the videos (I think the ones I got were called Laugh and Learn).

Re: Childbirth Class
GIRLLLLL let me tell you...I didn't go to a class, we just watched the video, but I wish that we would have went to a class actually! I feel it may have better prepared me. I was in labor for 30 hours before they gave me an epi (they wouldn't give it until I was 4cm.) I am actually thinking of taking a hypnobirthing class this time!

Re: Childbirth Class
I took an all-day Saturday class through South Nassau. By the time I delivered 2 months later, I only remembered some of it, but parts were helpful. I was induced after my water broke, and was having intense contractions all night before I was far enough along to have my epidural. The breathing techniques were somewhat helpful at that point, and it helped that DH attended the class with me to remind me what to do. Other than that, the nurse coached me through the actual pushing.

Re: Childbirth Class
This was back in 2007, we took the 1-day class at Good Sam. I thought it was fascinating and really enjoyed it. Would it have been the end of the world if we missed it? Probably not.

Re: Childbirth Class
We did ours at through the hospital I delivered at. For me the class was useful mostly for the breathing during labor (since I eventually had a c section). The L&D nurse actually said she could tell I took class cuz my DH was helping me so nicely through contractions. It helped me a lot. I never saw the videos mentioned but I would guess that the info would be pretty similar. I just liked going to the class cuz they really walked us through the whole thing, from labor pains at home till delivery and what to expect from your body and from the hospital. Plus we got a tour of the hospital which provided some comfort also.

Re: Childbirth Class
Save your $$$$$! I went back in 1997 when preggo with dd, and I didn't use any of the techniques they showed. When I would get a contraction I would squeeze the bed rail( that worked for me the hell with the breathing). I did not have a epidural or anything(fear of needle in my back), but they did give my stadol(similar to demerol) which knocked me the **** out and I woke up 2 hours later fully dilated and ready to push. Pushed and 45 minutes later she was born. In all labor began at 8:45pm got to the hospital at 11pm and dd was born at 4:30am.
