32 week appointment last night
I have measured large from the time my dr started measuring. She has always said let's not worry about it just yet. I see the dr bi-weekly now. At my 30 I measured 32, and last night at my 32 I measured 35. Also, I gained 4 lbs in 2 weeks. This surprises me because I am ALL belly and really have not gained in other places. I asked her where the weight is going and she was honest and said that she wasn't quite sure. I do notice that I am retaining fluid like every pregnant woman, but 2 extra pounds worth? Now, here's my concern: my husband was 10-2 when he was born and I was 8-6. I was hoping that my genes would take over and I would be more in the 8 range, but it doesn't look like that's the case. I have my growth sono next week (can't wait to see the baby again!) so we'll have a better idea after that (even though I have never met anyone who's growth sono was accurate). After we have the growth sono and see what we're dealing with, my dr said that we'll discuss options. Since I am petite she's concerned that it might be difficult for me to pass a "big" baby, so we can schedule a c-section or let things unfold. This upsets me because I would love to be able to experience labor and deliver vaginally. Of course, whatever is best for our baby is what we're going to do. I asked my dr about inducing early and she said that logically it makes sense, but scientifically it doesn't - woman who were induced early for this reason did not necessarily have vaginal births - in other words, the chance of having a c-section did not decrease in number. I'll know more after my next appt with my dr in 2 weeks where we'll go over the growth sono and discuss options.
Has anyone had this type of history, but went on to deliver a "normal" sized baby vaginally?
This is me at 30 weeks:

Re: 32 week appointment last night
No personal experience, but there are quite a few ladies on the parenting boards that delivered 8/9/10 pounders w/o incident - and most of them aren't Amazon women, lol. Your height and build are more or less irrelevant. A lot depends on the shape of your pelvis, the position of the baby, and the position you're ultimately "allowed" to labor and push in.
FWIW, I gained weight in spurts. Nothing in the first tri, 20-something lbs in the second tri, and about a pound a week in the third. But everyone is different.
Early inductions are linked to increased risk of c-sections. Obviously not everyone that's induced have sections, and some women have great experiences. Some don't. You don't know what kind of hand you'll be dealt until you're in there. IMO I wouldn't base a decision to induce or have a c-section based on a growth sono alone. Like you said, they're not always accurate. Do some (non LIF ) research and maybe even get a second opinion from another provider before making the call.
eta: FTR, my belly is barely smaller than yours and I'm 16w5d. You look perfect!

That's good advice - thanks! So far my weight gain is 28 lbs. If I can do a lb a week from now to the end, I'll be fine with that having only gained 35 lbs the whole pregnancy. I'm concerned it will be 4 more lbs. with each bi-weekly visit.
DH and I are leaning towards having things unfold naturally and taking it from there. I just want to make sure that I do what's best for my little Thanks, again!

Re: 32 week appointment last night
Not much input here but I can tell you that my bump is MUCH bigger than yours at 29+4. Everyone thinks my baby will be huge but I'm not too concerned, especially since my OB is not. We shall see!

Same here! I hear from co-workers how huge I am and then the follow-up to that is "do you know how big the baby is?". It drives me nuts! Lol

Re: 32 week appointment last night
I am also very petite and my DS was measuring very large. When I expressed my concern to my OB, she said that she has seen tiny women push out 10lb babies and larger women who could not push out 6lb babies. I had a VB and my DS was 7lb 15oz. I would let nature take it's course!
(PS - You look FAB!!!)

you have a great OB. many OBs are very fast to schedule c-sections or inductions stating the "baby is too big." its common for malpractice reasons and for selfish scheduling reasons by the OB.
if it were me and my OB was ok with a VB i would absolutely 1000% no doubt about it go with a VB. and i wouldn't go in with the mindset that you are "trying it." go with the mindset that you will do it!! and if there are complications during labor you can deal with those with your doctor as appropriate. there's no reason to assume you will have issues and will need "try" a VB. women have been birthing babies - big babies and small babies - for centuries. long before doctors controlled birth. don't let anyone tell you that you can't birth your baby the way you want to!!

Yep!!! I even had a co-worker ask me if I was tested for GD bc it "looked like my baby was huge." I'm 5'2 and have always been very petite so my poor baby has nowhere to go but out!!!! PS Negative glucose tests, growth sono shows nice size baby but not abnormally large.
