Obtaining a copy of Marriage Certificate (Short vs. Extended?)

Quick question.

I'm applying for a copy of my marriage certificate since I can't find my original. Chat Icon Chat Icon 2 years is probably a record or something.

Anyway, I need it for my passport name change. I had been waiting for it to expire because it's DAMN expensive to change! BUT, the passport agency calls for an original certificate with a raised seal. It's NOT clear on the City Clerk's site if a raised seal is included on the "short certificate" though it is definitely included on the "extended certificate".

Here's exactly what it says on the page:

The fee for a Marriage Record for domestic use (short certificate) is $15 for the first copy and $10 for each additional copy.
Even if you searched yourself and discovered the original Marriage License number, you must still pay a minimum fee of $15.
The fee for a Marriage Record for foreign use (extended certificate) is $35 for the first copy and $30 for each additional copy.
This fee includes the search, Certification, and Hand Signature with Raised Seal.
For the certificate to be valid outside the United States, you must complete two additional steps: Step one: take the document to the nearest County Clerk's Office to authenticate the City Clerk's hand signature, for a fee of $3.
Find the locations of the Offices of the County Clerks
Step two: take the document to the New York State Department of State for the authentication of the County Clerk's signature and the attachment of an "Apostille," for a fee of $10.
The Department of State is located at:

123 William Street
19th Floor
New York, NY 10038

I don't need it for foreign use techinically speaking, but I just don't want to wait around for my marriage certificate and then get it and realize it's useless and have to do it all over again. What do you think?

ETA: I googled and I keep bring brought back to this same page. Argh!

WHy not just pay the extra $20 to be on the safe side and have everything you need?

I ordered a copy when we first were married - I didn't want to send off my only copy in case it never came back. I don't remember having 2 options.

But for $20, I would just get the longer one. It may come in handy in the future, you never know.
