C-Section or Vbac?

Those who are pregnant again and had a c-section the first time are you planning on having a c-section again or are you going to try v-bac?

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

This is a personal choice - but I have no doubts that I will try for a vbac.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

VBAC, absolutely.

When I woke up from anesthesia in the recovery room, the second question I asked was if I was a VBAC candidate.

Being I will only be 16 months past,my firs c/s, I'm pretty sure it will have to be another c/s.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

I am not pregnant but I had 2 cs. Overall I am not the best candidate for vbac because they generally want smaller sized babies (like 7or 8lbs) My kids were both nearly 10lbs at birth.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

I would actually love a scheduled C-section. I was in the hospital for 2 days before having my c-section with DD, and really don't want to go through that again. MY Dr. said he really thinks I should try for a vbac, but he'll schedule a c-section at 39 weeks. If I go into labor before that, we'll see if it happens naturally, but if there are any complications at all, I'm going straight for a c-section. I really don't want to be in labor for 2 days again just to end up with a c-section.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

When the time comes I'm pretty sure I'll go for the scheduled c-section. I don't think I can handle the possibility of being in labor and having it end in a section anyway. I feel like I'd rather be prepared, calm and ready to go.

This is how I feel too although when I actually do get pregnant again I may change my mind. However right now I am leaning more towards another c-section. I had a great experience with my first one.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

My DS was delivered via c-section 2 years ago. I am going for a vbac thsi pregnancy even though my dr told me the reason for the first c-section is because my pelvis is too narrow. This baby is already measuring bigger than DS but I'm hoping the growth sono is off. And I hope he/ she has a smaller head.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

For me I will choose C-section. I have since had major back surgery and I have been told that a vaginal delivery can cause me problems. I also had a close family friend rupture during a v-bac. But I would love the chance to be able to labor. Somethings are just out of my hands.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

vbac as long as i can find a provider who will let me. absolutely NO question about it.

IMO (and only MO Chat Icon ) id rather let nature take its course as much as possible and limit as many interventions as possible. i feel that c-sections do not let your body process the end of pregnancy (ie oxytocin release) properly and it messes with the body's natural chemistry which can cause milk supply/nursing issues and increased post partum depression, as well as unnecessary separation from the baby at critical bonding moments right after birth.

my first delivery was a train wreck emergency c-section at 33w due to pre-eclampsia/HELLP syndrome and im hoping a future vbac can heal some of those emotional wounds.

if i do end up needing another c-section in the future, i do at least want to make it as family and baby centered as possible.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

I was given the option to vbac but I am going for another c section. My first labor was easy because I never pushed (induction) but never got to 10 cm. my c section was a complete horror show and my doctor told me that a scheduled c will go smoother. I am a little sad about missing the traditional birth experience but if my next c section goes well I will be 100% satisfied with my decision.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

I am going on my third c-section on Monday. I would def. not be a candidate for a vbac.

My first son was 10lbs.
My second son was 9lbs.
This baby is estimated to be at least 9lbs.

I have not dilated a single centimeter with any of my pregnancies.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

My first ds was a c-section because he was breech. My obgyn said I could try a VBAC but I scheduled a c-section. If I do happen to go into labor beforehand I may try it. I keep having second thoughts.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

I have a scheduled c-section date at 39.5 weeks, but if I go into labor on my own before then, I'll see how things progress.

Was able to vbac with #2.

With #3, I was set all along to have a v-birth again. However, around 37 weeks, my blood pressure was still high, even on meds, and then I had protein in my urine. I couldn't be induced because of the prior c/s (even though it was 8 years ago), so I had another c/s.

Ca n I ask a question on top of this? Is there a new way of doing a C-section where you CAN opt for a v-bac? I seem to remember someone telling me that if they do it in a certain way you can have the choice, but I remember back in the day when my mom had one you didn't. If you had a C-section once, you had to have it again.

It is how they do the incision that makes a difference. Back when our mother's were giving birth they would do a vertical incision much of the time, and those are the incisions that have a much higher risk of uterine rupture as opposed to now, where most of the time is a horizontal incision.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

I had natural childbirth (no meds) with DS and then DD was breech so she was a c-section. For baby #3 they have given me the option of a vbac since DS was a vag delivery. I am 5.5 months and haven't decided what to do yet, I am leaning towards trying the vbac but want the best, safest option for baby so we will see how things progress and her size etc.

Just to put it out there, I had both extremes of birth experiences and both were amazing and life changing. And I bonded with both kids the same, there was really no difference in the feelings that I had after the births. I have some friends who had c/s babies that said that helped them feel better, that they didnt "miss out" on anything or that the bonding w. baby is any different either way.

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

i am not sure if I will have a choice, but if I do. I am really considering a c section. I dont want to go through labor. even though its my first pregnancy and I dont know the difference. but from all the stories i hear from so many moms, I think I rather do c section. It seems to be a much more calming process. yes its painful for 2-3 more days after but then again labor is painful also and sometimes complications occur. so we'll see I guess

Re: C-Section or Vbac?

Thanks for all of your responses! I have a c-section scheduled but latley i have been thinking of a v-bac. My first labor i never progressed and after 36 hours of labor I had to have a c/s. I really would like to avoid that again which is why I am leaning towards a c/s again.

A lot depends on the circumstances of why you didn't progress. Keep in mind that every pregnancy, labor, and birth are new adventures.
