Anyone else stoked for the Tony Awards?

Can't wait :) My office has been buzzing about it all week...next week is going to be torture though; the week after the Tonys, when you work in Broadway ticketing, is ca-ray-zy!

I'm pulling for Once. Such a beautiful show; I highly recommend seeing it! It's the best musical I've seen. Not this season. Not this year. Ever.

NPH is hosting. 'Nuff said!

I am so far removed from Broadway Chat Icon but I will watch anyway because I have a friend who is very very into it and I want to see how everyone does.

Meeeee! Of the nominated shows, I've only seen Death of a Salesman and Once but I um, sort of have a minor obsession with Steve Kazee so I'm hoping he gets plenty of camera time. Chat Icon

Meee!!!

Once is amazing. I saw it at NYTW and was so moved by it. I'm not a big musical person and this was such a surprise. The music is beautiful and the stage movement is absolutely haunting.

Nina Arianda deserves to win for Venus in Fur, but I'm pulling for Linda Lavin in The Lyons. She gives a freakin master class in restraint on stage. What she can do with just an arched eyebrow is worth the price of admission.

NPH is the best host ever.

I was asked to participate in a talkback at NY Theatre workshop after a performance of Once - a group of theatre artists and scholars talking about Ireland, the Irish economic collapse, etc.

Anyway - we're all on the stage and I was trying to sound like a semi-articulate professor, and Steve Kazee walked out of the dressing rooms and crossed the stage. And I kinda squealed. In front of everyone. I also may have waved at him. And I looked like a lunatic.

But you can look at it as 'hey, I bet some of these shows will be touring very soon!' Chat Icon

Happy Tony Day! Chat Icon

I'm also not hugely into musicals, though am very much into music, and that's a big reason why I love Once so much. It's raw...while scripted, it has a feel of spontaneity. Oh, I love it so much.

The Nina/Linda showdown will definitely be interesting. I agree with you completely! I would love to see Cristin Miloti win for Once, but she's up against Audra McDonald...that would be quite the upset.

I don't understand why or how Leap of Faith or Lysistrata Jones got nominated. Chat Icon Chat Icon And while I'd love to see Other Desert Cities win for Best Play, they're closing next weekend so I think that will be a strike against them, in terms of the voters.

All in all, I'm very much Once for the musical awards, Death of a Salesman for the Play awards. I could be biased; its my favorite play...but Philip Seymour Hoffman, Linda Emond and Andrew Garfield NAILED IT as an amazing cast.

I have the option of going to the awards through my job, but opted out this year. I work in the industry and while its a really cool experience, I still have to be at my desk for what will (hopefully!) be a very hectic and crazy day tomorrow. I'd rather just chill on my couch with some wine and Trader Joe frozen appetizers, LOL!

I see that James Corden won best actor, that makes me so proud! My oldest friend's sister Julia is his girlfriend and I am hoping to see them all when I come to NYC! So cute to see her on tv!

Good show - I just wish there were fewer musical numbers and more awards. I'd love to see the designers get on the broadcast.

Happy to see Judith Light win - she was great in Other Desert Cities.

The best show of the year for me though was Sons of the Prophet - I wish it had transferred to broadway. I thought it was stronger than any of the other play offerings. It was the runner up for the Pulitzer Prize, right behind Clybourne Park.

Re: Anyone else stoked for the Tony Awards?

It's so busy at work today! Which is great...it means that a lot of our shows won Chat Icon

I AM SO HAPPY FOR THE CAST AND CREW OF 'ONCE'! I love this musical so much and it's wonderful that it was recognized with so many awards.

I also cried during Steve Kazee's speech! Such a sweetheart.

NPH was a good host, but I felt like some of the hosting was a little...stale? The Book of Mormon opening was cute, but unnecessary IMO. Sales for that show are through the roof; it doesn't need the additional publicity. And I LOVE this show as well...I just feel like, hey, it had it's moment, time to move on.

Judith Light - seemed to sincere and surprised. Chat Icon

Nina Arianda was a surprise win! Though was she still playing Vonda when she delivered her speech? Chat Icon

Mike Nichols' anecdote about the pie-eating contest was really cute. He seemed so touched by the win.

And now...on to the fall season! Chat Icon

OMG yes! I was just telling DH about this speech and how it made me tear up. I also loved Steve Kazee's speech, very sweet as well. It was a good show this year. I haven't seen a show in so long, it made me want to run out and buy tix!
