Re: Newborn to beach?
I wouldnt. Not unless it was in the evening out of the sun for a short walk along the beach.

Re: Newborn to beach?
Ehhh, I really don't think I would. The blaring sun can burn you even under an umbrella and you certainly can't put suncreen on a newborn. Also I would imagine it will be hot and they have a hard time regulating their temps when they're that little. You'd also have to worry about dehydration. I wouldn't but that's just me.

Re: Newborn to beach?
If it's not too hot or humid - I wouldn't see a problem with it.
DS loves it outside - he sleeps so well! My ped said we could start using sunscreen immediately on him.

Oh wow, I have to look into this for the future! I had it in my head you couldn't use it till 6 months.

Check with your pediatrician before using sunscreen on a baby less than 6 months. I went to Florida last summer and DD was 4 months and my ped said no sunscreen.

My pediatrician said that the risks of the sun outweigh any risk of the sunscreen - she would rather have the baby be protected.
We used sunscreen on both DS around 9-10 weeks and they had no reaction.
ETA - We do keep them in the shade when they are outside.

Re: Newborn to beach?
We took a 2 month old to the Hamptons. One of us ended up staying indoors with the baby or we carried him around in the bjorn. It was sooooooo hot carrying a baby in the sun in a bjorn.
I personally did not think it was an enjoyable vacation at all.

Re: Newborn to beach?
I bought a little sun hut for my DD when she was a much smaller baby. She was at the beach with me (since I am within walking distance of a marina) by about 2 mos. I brought the boppy with me and she napped on the boppy in the sun hut. When it got a little too hot I just walked back home.

Re: Newborn to beach?
i did. DS was my second child, he was born July 29th. As long as it wasnt a scourcher, we were at the beach. It was cooler there, the fresh air was good for me and him, and my DD was still able to enjoy her summer and not be stuck inside. I do remember a few of the last dog days of summer that we were home in the AC until late afternoon, then just went for walks outside.

Re: Newborn to beach?
I brought my oldest son when he was 8 weeks old. Brought a huge blanket, big umbrella and took him in his carseat. It really was ok except for the wind. I remember it bothered him and sand kept blowing on the blanket. After a short time I gave up and took him home. He was also completely drenched in sweat even under the umbrella. I gave it a good effort but for us it was more stressful than nice.

Re: Newborn to beach?
Sure. If it is not too hot. I think it is easier to bring an infant to the beach than a toddler. The fresh ocean air is great for Mommy healing and baby!

Re: Newborn to beach?
I did when DC#2 was born last summer. Had an umbrella and bug net, kept him completely out of the sun.

Re: Newborn to beach?
I wouldn't. I'd be to nervous if any sun got on their skin at that age.

Re: Newborn to beach?
I brought my 2 month old to the beach last year. I put a sun hat on her, kept her in the sun hut and we were fine. I brought her and dipped her feet in the water a few times....she loved being outside.
If you can walk there, give it a shot, if it isn't working out...walk back home!

Re: Newborn to beach?
My LO got sand in her eye as an infant. I don't think babies have their blink reflex until 6 mos? I wouldn't for this reason. She wound up with a little scratch on her cornea. It wasn't bad, but the exam she had to undergo was horrible! I never want to have to go thru it again.

Re: Newborn to beach?
No I probably wouldn't, that just doesn't sound fun to me at all! Huge difference in 2.5 weeks and 2 months IMO
