DIY or not, what are you working on?

We are still finishing or bathroom renovation, we are building a new cedar deck and we have a million little things we are working on in the house. My MIL is arriving from Florida in less than 3 weeks so I know DH will get it all done or his mother will think he's a slacker lol

Hopefully we will get something 100% finished this weekend so I can pst pics!

We're refacing our kitchen cabinets, putting in new floors in the kitchen, getting a dishwasher, and painting the kitchen once everything is installed.

We just brought in topsoil to fill in some spots in the backyard so we are currently working on growing grass. We are filling in flowers and shrubs here and there too. Soon, we'll be re-staining/sealing our deck and swing set. Oh, and we need to find a light fixture for our bedroom. We had an eventful winter with a basement and master bath renovation so it's small projects for the time being.

Re: We haven't done this in a while, what projects are you working on this spring?

Finished the majority of my paver patio. Just need to do some finish work on it.

Today, I'm cementing some of the front steps that I'm building (I'll have a thread on that when I'm done. I have an ear infection, so I'm not working as quickly as I'd like.....)

Build steps on the other side of the front porch.
Paver walkway on both sides of the front of the house.

That's probably all I'll be able to get to this spring. My summer list will be just as long... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Blech...

We need to putty the windows, get an exhaust fan in the bathroom, paint the bathroom, finish putting up ceiling tiles and painting in the basement, paint the kitchen, repair the rusted lintel on front window.

All stuff that won't be noticeable

We are putting up a new cedar fence. We are renovating our living room to make space for a dining area, possibly knocking down a wall or two. Then we have to paint the foyer, living room, hallway, and kitchen. We are having someone stain our deck, and we seriously need to clean out the garage. That's about it for now.

DH is painting our extra bedroom to turn it into a nursery for our baby, due this fall. And we're going to regrout the bath tub wall in anticipation of a little one splashing around in there. Also, DH grows a vegetable garden every summer, so he's got to get started on that soon. He's actually taking the next few days off in the hopes of getting it all done. We'll see how that goes...

we are currently in the purchasing phase of our masterbath remodel. Construction begins in July. At that time, we are gutting our living room and dining room, installing new sheetrock and moulding and adding a closet system to our master closet.

Re: We haven't done this in a while, what projects are you working on this spring?

we finished our bedroom last month, and now our projects for the rest of the year are:

1. Finish veggie garden: it's 85% done now, but we need to build the gate and put the railings in

2. Living room demo/remodel: we have all the furniture except for a sitting chair and end table, but we're knocking down walls and rebuilding them, re-doing electric and lighting, re-doing insulation, etc..we also need to finish decorating the room

3. Paint kitchen/dining room

4. Front porch remodel: paint our front door, put up house numbers, spray paint patio furniture, get new cushions for the patio furniture, put in spindles, power wash house, paint railings, put up house numbers

5. Back porch remodel: scrape down iron railings, spray paint iron railings, paint back door, put new screen on screen door

and we want to finish this all by september 1..chances of that happening? Chat Icon

Re: We haven't done this in a while, what projects are you working on this spring?

We just moved into our new house in the last month and a half. This month the master bedroom was gutted. When we moved in we looked into having our room sheet rocked, it was a paneling and plaster mess. Surprise, surprise our ceiling was "falling" b/c the house was built in 1928 with only 2x4's to hold the ceiling up. Typically 2x6's or 2x8s are used.

We are currently having the floors redone in our master bedroom. In a crunch for time we quickly painted the master but we still have some minor painting to complete.

The floors in the living room dining room and foyer were all buffed and reglazed this weekend.

We still have other painting to do around the house. The foyer walls need one coat of paint. The back hallway needs some "patching" and painting as well. The "mother-in-law suite" needs to be completed before she "invades in July/August for a month from Hawaii. We'll put down new carpeting and paint the walls. This has to be done very "cheaply" because eventually there will be some demo in this area of the house. She's paying to make it "liveable" in the meantime.

Funds are quickly dwindling, which I have learned is very common with home purchases. We'll be waiting till next February to do a bathroom and some other things that are on our very long laundry list of to do's.

Re: We haven't done this in a while, what projects are you working on this spring?

We are waiting for estimates for our pool installation! If all goes well we'll be swimming by Labor Day.

After the pool, we are putting up an additional 2 car garage with a bonus room and full bath above.

Other misc. stuff - we are getting a second fridge for the laundry room, window treatments for guest bedroom and office.

Next year we will be replacing the kitchen sink, master bath countertops and hopefully re-doing mud room and laundry room (putting in cabinets, etc.)

Re: We haven't done this in a while, what projects are you working on this spring?

These projects will def take us till the end of the Summer to complete!!!!!

~ We are in the process of finishing up the nursery. Babes is due at the end of July.

~ Plant a flower garden on each side of the house in the front.

~ DH wants to put a veggie garden in our backyard.

~ We are hiring a handyman to come in and put in crown molding in the dining room and living room. He is going to fix our bedroom door (it doesnt stay shut) and fix up our back & front porch. We are also having wall molding put up in the living room.

~ We are staining the front & back porch, getting new furniture for the front, including a bench swing which I am SUPER excited about!!!

~ We are getting mosquito & all weather curtains for our back porch.

~ Finally, we are converting a guest / storage room into an office. I have been waiting to do this since we bought the house (almost 2 yrs ago!!!!) and I am so excited!!!

Ripped out a small patio and walkway in the backyard and ripped up our entire (crappy) lawn--front and back. Had sod installed front and back.

New fence on both sides of the house

Just discovered a nice surprise yesterday--huge leak in our garage, so now we will be turning our garage into a den earlier than we planned.
