Spinoff from "What to Reject" article: VBAC questions.
I had a scheduled c/s at 40wks exactly with DS due to size (he was 9lbs 8ozs).
I was a surrogate for SIL and had a repeat c/s at 39wks 2days. When I was 9wks with that pregnancy, I asked OB about VBAC and he said it couldn't be determined until later in pregnancy and basically said "if all the stars align" we could try (meaning baby baby head down, in position, etc).
With this pregnancy he said "when we schedule you for your c/s . . .". I didn't say anything b/c I had not given much thought to it.
The more I think about it, the more I want to try for a VBAC. DH is more along the lines of a c/s b/c of the "convenience" of scheduling it and having a set date. With both prior pregnancies, I had zero signs of labor.
I am looking for anyone's experience in VBAC- the good, bad and ugly. Also, am I nuts to consider it- with my 3rd pregnancy? There is a chance (though slim) we may have another child.
TIA

I never had a VBAC but I wanted to wish you lots of luck. I hope that you get the birth experience that you want! and for being a surrogate.
I bet there are some ladies here that can point you to some pro VBAC drs. Maybe consult with a mid wife?

Re: Spinoff from "What to Reject" article: VBAC questions.
So you'd be a VBAC after 2 c-sections? Your options for practitioners are kind of limited, but it can be done. To my knowledge, the Gaia Midwives will work with you and deliver your baby in Nassau University Medical Center. I know two people through ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) that VBAC'd after two sections, and were overall thrilled with the experience.
As for other midwives/groups...The SB Midwives will only do a VBAC after 1 c-section. Not sure about the other midwives on LI and IMO there are even fewer OBs that will do it. But definitely talk to the ladies at ICAN. The next meeting is on Monday!

Yes, I would be a VBAC after 2 c/s. I haven't researched or discussed it with OB.
I love, Love, LOVE my OB- he delivered DS and my niece. I've been a part of the practice for 10+ yrs, so the thought of switching practices hurts.
I only am thinking about it - the post sparked it even more and it's been on the back of my mind.

Jill! I didn't congratulate you yet, so...congratulations!!!
I was hoping for a VBAC with Abby, but as you know, it didn't end up that way because I didn't go into labor. Anyway, during that c-section I asked my OB if I had a 3rd would a VBAC be an option and she peered over the curtain and said, "Not gonna happen!" and she was pro VBAC for #2. Well, at the point I actually had #3, I was no longer interested and it turned out I had a lot of scar tissue from the first two anyway...and I wonder if that would have complicated matters...
Either way though, I wish you well and hope it turns out the way you want

Thank you all for the responses. And for the well wishes. . .
I guess VBAC after 2 c/s isn't much of an option. I do recall OB mentioning after the 2nd c/s that there was surprisingly little scar tissue.

It's not that it's not an option, but it might not be an option for your doctor. It doesn't hurt to talk to a different practitioner and get a 2nd opinion. Then you can make a decision based on more information.

Re: Spinoff from "What to Reject" article: VBAC questions.
I was an unsuccessful VBAC for DD, who was born in February. I am still pro-VBAC, however, but since you asked for bad experiences here is mine.
My OB had me scheduled for a c/s on my DD. He said that if I looked like I would go into labor, he would let me go a couple more days and then help me along a little in the hospital.
When I arrived at the hospital on the scheduled date, he checked me. I was 1 cm dialated and thinning. He asked me what I wanted to do.
Something inside of me said to just have a c/s. I am very lucky that I did. When he opened me up, he could see the baby through my uterus--- it had completely thinned. He barely had to cut into me. If i had labored, my uterus would have ruptured.
I don't know if the state of my uterus was due to the prior c/s or not. I do know that I am very lucky. I am thankful that DD and I are healthy. I will never regret that I really didn't get to try for the VBAC and experience labor.
