DS1 was in love with his - we told him he couldn't turn 3 until he gave it up so he did, a week before he turned 3.
The binky fairy came and left $10 under his pillow for a trip to Chuck E Cheese - that worked well.
DS2 is almost 2.5 and also in love with his - I will give him until 3 as well.
I'm not losing sleep over him having one - he uses it for comfort when he sleeps and sometimes in the car.
Good luck, but don't stress it if he's not ready to give it up!

I am starting to think 3 may be a more realistic age for ditching it.
She is still a baby and she really doesn't "get" it yet, kwim?

My DD is almost 2 and is addicted to it! I joke and say she'll have it till she's 5. But in all honesty we're trying to slowly wean her off of it. Like we dont have that many around, or if i see it around i'll put it away until she really needs it.
My older DD just one day told us that she didn't want it anymore. So they do tend to give it up in their own time.

My DD took a paci until she was 2.5 - a little older than that, even. She was SO attached to it I thought she wouldn't sleep at all if she didn't have one (or 5) in her bed. It was hard but she was over it in 2 days. We did it in steps, basically saying you can ONLY have a paci when you're sleeping, no paci in the house, no paci in the car etc. and then finally told her she had to go to sleep without one. She cried so much that night but eventually she did it. We had the added benefit of having DS at that time so we distinguished between "big girls" who don't take pacis and "babies" who do.
I also didn't take her off of bottles until she turned 2 because she was so attached.
And my DS at 22 months still gets 2 bottles a day. He was never that attached to the paci so we stopped giving it ages ago, and for that I am so grateful because I'm just not good at weaning from these things and i really hate interfering with ANYTHING that helps them sleep.

just turned 3...yes flame away.
It was MUCH MUCH easier than I thought and DD is super high maintenance. She was addicted to that paci like you wouldn't believe.
We gave her a whole big girl speech and just took it away cold turkey. She cried the first night and asked for it for a few days after but then she was over it. Never looked back...it was so much easier than I thought it would be.

jack will be 2 in 10 days and he still uses his EVERY NIGHT and EVERY NAP.
I am in no rush. It doesnt leave his crib and he has no speech delay so why ruin a good thing? When he is ready, we will do it

DS loved the paci. He used it for a long time mostly for sleeping and some long car rides. I was surprised he gave it up on his own. He gave it up for naps before 2.5 and gave it up completely at the same time he was PTed (3-4 months before turning 3).

We did it cold turkey with my twins the week of their 2nd bday.
DD cried for 3 hours the first night like we took away her best friend. The second night was only about 10 min or so. DS asked for it, but didn't cry when we didn't give it to him. By the end of the week they didn't even ask for it anymore.

don't sweat it-if i said publicly how old my DD was when she ditched it i would be hanged  i swear. she is almost 5 and let's just say she gave it up recently... like in the past year. she is fine-no bucked teeth, no major speech issues, etc. she def. did have a high palate but it's amazing how much her mouth has improved since stopping.
now i'm not saying to keep it as long as i did-but don't get too worried. these things don't really matter in the grand scheme of life. :)
