Ugh- my DD got stuck in her carseat VENT with a question

I was in a car accident a few weeks ago and needed by buy DD (2y) a new carseat. I bought the Graco Argos 70 and was really excited about it.

Right away I noticed that it was really difficult to fasten the ****** buckle and tighten the straps. I read some reviews and saw that others had this problem and that it would loosen up with wear.

Today I had to stop and buy diapers on the way to work. I went to unbuckle DD when we got to the store and it was jammed. There was no way to get the buckle open. I had to finagle her out of there as best I could and when I left the store I just sat her on top of the buckle and only used the chest straps Chat Icon Thank goodness I was only going a few miles and Thank God no one hit me!

I just called BRU and told them what happened and they said to just bring in the seat and they'll check it out.

I'm hoping they just replace it. Now I need to wait for DH to leave work later so he can go to my mom's and get her carseat and bring it to me so I can bring DD home and then go swap out the seat. Chat Icon

Now for the question- can anyone recommend their toddler's seat for under $200 that can be bought at BRU?

Graco Nautilus. So many moms on here highly recommended it and we are so happy with it, have been using it for almost a year now and haven't had any problems with it, plus DD loves it.
It was def under $200

This is what we had before the accident and I loved it. I went with the Argos because it would be the last seat she'd need. Big Mistake.

The Graco Nautilus has had numerous complaints of a sticking buckle as well. Although, it might just be the older models. I would do a search on here, since it's been talked about a lot.

Call graco!!!!! I had a problem with the handle on my snug ride and they were great! They sent me a check in the amount of the seat to buy a new seat and a return shipping label to mail back the seat. I went out to bru picked out my new seat and than just cashed the check when I got it.

I just got it a few months ago for my 3 year old - it's kind of a PITA - to clieck them in - it has never completely gotten jammed though

but honeslty, sometimes I feel my Britax unclips almost TOO easily - so it's a trade off.

We have the Evenflo Symphony 65 LX for the twins and LOVE it! I believe they were $199 and we used a 20% coupon on each. They are super easy to fasten and loosen and there is no way the twins can loosen it or unbuckle it.

I complained about the sticking buckle on the Nautilus also. Just got a new buckle from Graco I have to install it. Hope it's better.

I second this seat!!! Rear facing to 40 pounds, harnesses can be used to 65 pounds, seat can be used to 100 pounds as a high back booster. Super easy to install too!!

Re: Ugh- my DD got stuck in her carseat VENT with a question

If you just bought it you can try to do an even exchange at BRU.

Graco has been responsive about the buckle issue and replacing ones that have started being sticky or difficult. There may be a bad batch because I am hearing about this more often now and one of my own 3 MyRides is having an issue with the right tongue being sticky/difficult to fasten. (As an aside, I was at the park with 2 other techs Saturday and we were discussing it. Both have multiple Graco seats as well and the issue seems to be very hit or miss, so it could be just that there was a bad batch. )

Otherwise, the only other FF combination seat I really like is the Frontier. I've heard nice things about the Trendz Fastback and the Evenflo Securekid 400 but not sure if BRU has those yet.

I wouldn't look at a RF seat if she's already FF and you have no intention to re-RF her.

The Nautilus, MyRide and Argos all use the same buckle now.

Re: Ugh- my DD got stuck in her carseat VENT with a question

Thanks for all the responses.

TaraBelle- I would be willing to put her RF again, but I'm afraid she won't have it and I can't deal with the whining Chat Icon She was 2 yesterday so we're over the the minimum recommendation, I may as well just keep her FF now. Chat Icon

I'm going to check out a few of the ones listed.

I noticed that they changed the MyRide. We bought her original seat over a year ago when it had the old style buckle and I don't think we ever had a problem.

This carseat stuff is a PITA.

Another ?? for TaraBelle- would you try another Graco or go for another brand considering the Graco seats all have the same buckle? I'm afraid that when I try them in the store they will all work but once I get home they won't

Re: Ugh- my DD got stuck in her carseat VENT with a question

Honestly?

If you liked the Argos, just do an even exchange. A buckle sticking can happen on any seat (my Britax sticks on occasion)
But, in this case, I wouldn't let that deter me. It could just be a bad buckle.

I still love the Nautilus, it's a great seat, so you can always go for that one.

She's 2, it's your call. If you think she may accommodate you RF again, then we can investigate some RF seats. But, since she is 2 and that is the recommendation, even I will say don't force it and YAY to getting to 2.

I actually was a HUGE fan of the old Graco buckle that pushed down. If you liked that buckle better PLEASE go to Graco's Facebook page and tell them.
